John Deere LT 180. More than just "maintenance" Q.

Our JD mower is about 10-12 years old, approx. 525 hours on it. It's been well-used with only yearly servicing on it (oil change, blades sharpened, etc.). I'm the one who uses it, and I think it needs a minor "over-haul" (maybe that's too strong a word?). I'm wondering if it's worth it..... How long can these mowers last, etc.? How much money should I allocate toward it before I give in and let hubby get a new one (I don't know why he wants one, he's still years away from retirement and taking over the yard)?

It needs new tires, and the mowing deck can't be raised as high as it used to, so I'm going to have a small engine repair shop pick it up and take care of these things. The steering feels stiffer to turn than it used to as does the lever that engages the blades. Other than that, it's always started right up for me and engine sounds strong.

Is there anything else that needs to be done at this stage of a JD mower's life?

Thanks!
