John Deere LT155 or D130 Series
Comments (7)I think 1500 for the LT155 with bagger is way too much, unless it is very low hours and mint. That model ended around end of 2000 or early 2001 ( so most of them are older than that), replaced with the LT 150/160's. The LT160 is really a nicely updated version of the 155, as far as I can see. I bought a used LT160 (2002) with 75 hours or so, for $800, with a mulching Freedom deck, no bagger, around 2007. That was a particularly good deal, with snow on the ground, etc. I added a used but nearly new 42C deck from Ebay (a dealer who took the deck in trade for a Freedom deck) for about 200 including shipping it home, and a bagger from JD for around 450 back then. Everything is still in excellent condition, mowing about 40,000 feet of pretty flat grass. Machine is very solid, very economical to run, probably not quite as heavy duty as my old 165H, nor quite as sturdy as the X300 but close. I would hunt for a later LT series over any of the current Big Box level, and $1500 should get you a really nice one. The Freedom deck is awesome for mulching, but doesn't do anything else. If you need to pick up leaves, etc., then the bagger with 38 or 42 C deck does great. I bag in the spring to clean up winter junk, etc., then mulch until October or so when leaves start to come down. If you get a chance, drive both an LT and a new D and ai think you wil quickly tell that they just feel different....See MoreJD LT155 drive/reverse problem
Comments (13)The sting I posted should be put into an ascii word processor and made into one string, and then pasted into the address window of your browser. When you get the part page, you must enter the model number as LT155 or lt155, no spaces or dashes. I was just on the site to check what you said. While I was not requested to enter a password, some where in my system there may be one that is being passed when requested. (One of the first things I did when I got the tractor, was find this site and that was many years ago. ) The registration is simple, and the time to register is worth the information that is available. There are a couple dozen drawing of various component of the tractor, and a parts list keyed to the drawings. There is one drawing that shows the routing of the drive belt, and the part numbers for the plastic fan and all other parts. Fan 12 M127359 You can order the part from the JD parts site or you can get it from any authorized JD Dealer, not big box store. JD Dealers are fun to visit to see the big brothers to your tractor and the other large farm equipment. I have purchased their tune up kit for many years from the JD Dealer because it is cheaper than buying the same filters, plugs, and oil separately from the big box store. Comments (13)Well, if you are going to buy a brand new LA, you might as well spend a few hundred dollars more and get an X300. The X300 is miles away better than the LA series. It will run much longer and smoother with less trouble and better comfort, and the X300 will have much better resale value. You get what you pay for. Personaly, I would buy a 1-2 year old garden tractor for the same price. There are some great deals out there on used GT and GX series tractors. Deere has really screwed the pooch with the cheap LA series in the box stores. They've watered the brand reputation down. Should have kept with the Saber or Scotts line or some other brand differentiation to avoid harming the Deere brand....See Morela110 vs la120 questions
Comments (9)thanks, all questions answered. rio I LIKE THAT! my mtd $800 tractor manual xmission requires that i disengage the mower deck to backup. it is a pain really, i often wondered if any tractor allowed you to mow in reverse, not that you want to but it is just eaiser to back up 2' w/o having to disengage then re-engage the deck. as for cruise control apparently keeping your foot on the pedal at a steady pressure is not hard. i don't know, my mtd being a manual i can move both feet any time anywhere. it seemed that cruise control was a huge benefit, appearently not. as for gas consumption, as i stated the difference in these 2 engines is almost 50% more displacement so i was curious about how much more gas that would consume even tho the hp is a small difference. frankly, i doubted the gas usuage would be noticed but i wanted to ask. i plan on mowing tonight, my mtd has been acting up. i'm not sure if it'll mow or not. tomorrow i plan on going to the husqvarna dealer again and to the jd dealer 1st time. the home depot yard machine for $800 is almost the same as my mtd walmart $800 mower that i've used for 7.5 years and it has been a good mower. if it does require serious repairs i think it is money spent that may not be worth it. $800 vs $1500 vs $1650 the husqvarna and john deere have to out last the yard machine for twice as many years to justify the cost. not sure what to do other than hope my mtd runs another season! :) thanks, tom...See Morejon-boy
