Any Royal Poinciana Seed experts out there?
Just wanted to ask a quick question, I've been collecting Royal Poinciana seed pods for the last few weeks and I'm starting to notice the seeds are getting darker. I'm sure its because they are in the pods for longer period of time but was wondering if they are still good. I've split some in half to check the inside and they still look green and fresh.

Comments (4)A friend in Florida taught me this and works for me: Put the seeds in boiling water for 10 seconds, take them out, nick them, and plant them. 100% successful germination. My plants have been living in Long Beach Ca for several years. If not protected in the coldest days of winter, the branch tips die back. 7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoEvery single seed I've ever planted has germinated. I usually nick them top and bottom and soak for a day. They are good to go. I've tried every kind of soil but regular miracle grow potting soil works best..
if you nick the seed too deep on the root part, it isn't going to grow.. The root part is more rounded.. If you don't nick the seed it will take a lot longer to get soft.
i haven't tried any of these darker seeds though..
And this is all in my limited experience...
EDIT: They germinate super fast for me.. They usually sprout up in 3 to 5 days after a 24-48 hour soak.
