my dying green song if india
Comments (1)In winter months, the soil of Songs should be kept dry. Given a hearty drink, then before adding more water, soil should feel and look crumbly. Whoever told you leaf drop is normal is wrong. Songs are evergreen..An occassional leaf dropping is okay, but not daily. Bend a stem..is if flexible? If so, then your plant is probably alive. If it breaks off, and the inner wood is brown, it's probably a goner. Before repotting, make sure it's alive..Why do you feel repotting will help? Repotting will only add more stress. If your Song is alive, add 10 drops of SuperThrive to a gallon of water, then apply to soil. Don't fertilize. An occassional shower perks up Songs..I also mist mine daily. Good luck..Toni...See MoreDying Song of India
Comments (16)I have a Song of India that I have had for a long time. It is very healthy - except that in recent times it has a lot more brown leaves than usual, Is that over watering? I use a bottom watering - reservoir - type pot & I can feel a lot of water still there. I'm going to let it dry out completely & see what happens....See Morenew Song of India plant - repot?
Comments (5)If you combine B and E, you'll very notably decrease the excess water retention you're dealing with, which should easily allow you to maintain the plant's vitality level until a more appropriate time to repot. Poke/ drill/ melt a hole through the bottom of the pot at the sidewall and push a wick up into the soil. After you water thoroughly at the sink, tip the pot at a 45* angle with the wick dangling from the pots lowest point. Wait until water stops dripping off the wick to right the plant and return it to the collection saucer. Try never to allow the plant to sit in the effluent that exits the drain hole. It contains a high level of salts, from tapwater and fertilizer solution, which accumulate in the soil if you water in small sips. Cotton wicks rot quickly. I use rayon mop strands. Some of the best wicks I've used have been the plastic ties used to secure mesh bags of produce - commonly citrus. Not all work well, but those that do will last indefinitely. I have a few that have been in constant service for at least a decade. Al...See MoreAmazing Dracaena 'Song of India'
Comments (10)I have a draceaena white jewel that's fighting some kind of leaf spot disease (fusarium, maybe), and the easiest place to isolate it is on my back porch, which gets full sun for 2 hours in the evening, and otherwise full shade. Highs have been 95-102 the last several weeks (though with a LOT more humidity than y'all get), and it's looking better. Granted, there were brown leaf spots to start with, so I can't tell how much might be sunburn. It's still putting out healthy new leaves, so my plan is to leave it there and keep spraying it with its leaf spot treatment until further notice....See Morebananafan2
