OT: Emerging From Hibernation
Comments (13)Joyce, so glad that you dropped in and said hello. We've missed ya. I hope you find a way to get your knee surgery done. Keeping you in my prayers. Hoping that the plants coming out of their winter sleep and starting to bloom will at least cheer you up a bit. Don't feel bad about losing a few brug cuttings, this was my first year to start brug cuttings over the winter and I'm embarrassed to say how many I've lost. :o( But on the bright side, I do have some that will find a home outside when I get time to plant them. :o) It will be nice to actually have a dinning room again. lol Bri, hope you get over the sinus infection, those are no fun at all. Get well soon. Hugs to you both, Deb...See MoreOT: Any Motorcycle Riders?
Comments (21)Dawn, I got a lump in my throat as I read your description of the biker barrier at the funeral. I've seen that on TV and it's quite a sight. I know they come from all over and pay all their own expenses. I have a cousin who is a biker. He is a quiet family man who owns a home, has children and grandchildren, and worked all his life to have what he has. People fear that which they do not understand. I was in California in the late 60's at the height of the Hell's Angels era. We were told to duck inside if we heard them coming because they would rape women right out there on the street, and beat up men. I never knew if that really happened or not. Several years ago, on another forum, I passed along something I saw in the paper about bikers volunteering to be advocates for children in child-abuse cases. I thought that was wonderful. I was flamed after that by someone who said her brother was beaten to within an inch of his life by bikers. Personally, I have liked all the bikers that I have ever known. I have known them to be extremely respectful and kind-hearted, quiet and unassuming, yet confident, and I have never felt frightened of them. My son is adopted, and his birth family was quite large. The children from his birth family want to keep in contact with him and I approve of that. One of them is a biker. When he arrived at my house, in full leather, chain and tattoo regalia, all my neighbors stood up and took notice. I went out there and hugged him in front of everyone. I might add that one of those neighbors I had been having a little trouble with settled down quite a bit after that. Of course there will be bikers who give the others a bad reputation, just as there are in every other identifiable "group" of people. Somebody in a business suit can swindle you out of all your money. Should we distrust everyone that wears a business suit? I guess maybe there are some who do! LOL I, too, am too old and fat (and arthritic -- I can't even lift my leg high enough to get ON a motorcycle anymore!) to be a "biker mama" but maybe in another life.... --Ilene...See More(OT Survey for DD) Clowns: Love Them or Hate Them?
Comments (42)Thank you all so much for participating in DD's survey. I still remember the first time I checked out the group of lake cottages my family and I were going to rent for our week-long reunions. One cottage was decorated totally with clown art. IMO, it was a nightmare! My one sis and her family, who aren't clown-haters take that cottage every year. Many of the rest of us dislike even being in there! Another sis (I have 4), who also takes after our mom, inherited our grandparent's large, old Murano glass clown. She keeps it on her guest room dresser . . . until we come to visit. I won't sleep with that in our room and put it face down under her bed, far away from me while we're there. My3dogs: what a great piece of info. DD says "thank you!!!" for that. Kelly: ROFLMAO . . . I'm afraid to ask about that one! Lynn...See MoreOT...talking tablets and tomatoes
Comments (8)I'm envious of your tomatoes. We can't grow tomatoes here at the immediate coast but last summer we made another stab at a veggie garden & planted 10 heirloom tomatoes (along with other bunny delights!). Well, we had an abnormal summer with scorching hot sun every day & little rain. The tomatoes thrived. We got over confident & planted 12 heirlooms this spring. This year, we're having our normal weather...temps in the mid-60s to mid-70s, marine layer creating what we call "Mystic Pewter Skies", & abundant rainfall (already over 5" with more this week). The tomatoes are miserable, several have keeled over dead, a couple more are in the hospital & are unlikely to recover, & the rest are just sitting there looking just as they did back in mid-May. :( Enjoy your harvest! For yummy dehydrated tomatoes...slice, cover in red wine, sprinkle with salt, basil, & oregano & refrigerate covered overnight. Drain & dehydrate as usual. Delicious. No opinion on notebook vs tablet but I love my new Sony Google TV. Surfing the net & sending emails while I watch TV is great. /tricia...See MoreUser
