tree fungus Identification and treatment

One the peach trees in my backyard seems to have mushroom/fungii growing on the trunk. I have attached pictures. I need help identifying the type of fungus. How harmful scan it be for the tree if left untreated? What are the treatment options? thanks.

It looks like shelf fungus which is feeding off of rot inside the tree. The fungus isn't causing the problem, just benefiting from it. It's likely not treatable, and removal will likely be your best option.

Those are the fruiting bodies of a fungus. The main part of the organism, the mycelium, is inside the tree busily rotting away the interior. By the time these fruiting bodies appear outside the tree there is nothing to be done about it. The fungus is not benefitting from some other rot. It is the external manifestation of the rot.

looks like a Trithrinax. I have no idea about the fungus. Give it some time after the copper fungicide treatment, if it doesnt get better then trash it and replace with a different palm.

I have had an excellent outcome, rather unexpectedly, regarding toenail fungus. I have a farm and often have to wear rubber boots. That's when the problem started. I, too, tried everything. Then I got leather boots and thick cotton socks, and within 6 months it's almost gone. My feet sweat, there's no getting around it, but they were in rubber or plastic, nonbreathable shoes. They are in a natural, breathable shoe now, and it's very different. The boots are extremely comfortable. And good shoemakerrs will tell you, never wear a pair of shoes two days in a row, so they can dry out. It makes all the difference. I think it's the vinyl, rubber, plastic shoes, along with synthetic socks, including women's nylons that are causing the problem for most people. Our feet can't breathe. The trick about getting leather boots, shoes and sandals to fit you correctly is to wear them, and get them wet, then keep wearing them for a couple of house. It's not too hard to do if you are hiking or working outside. I know, it might seem freaky, but they conform to your foot exactly as they should if they dry on your foot. I do it with every pair of leather shoes and they always becomes my favorites.

I think these are lichens, and they are NOT related to moss nor do they cause harm to the tree. I was going to look up how to kill them, but after reading quite a few articles on lichens, I was so fascinated that I could not bring myself to research that part. My son did a research paper on lichens when he was in elementary school, but I only took the photos so didn't learn from his adventure. I did learn that lichens puff out after rains, so we timed our photo session for maximum size. You may want to research lichens and then decide how to handle these interesting growths.

Huggorm thinks the fungus is there because the tree was already on the way out. And not the initial cause of the damage. As far as can be made out using these pictures it seems the tree is probably a pie cherry (Prunus cerasus). Something happened to kill half of it and that is why the fungus got into it. The way the dead part is all on one side it's as though it was weather related. As in frost cracking or summer sun burn. If you want to find out for sure what you are dealing with try your nearest branch office of the USDA Cooperative Extension Service. They will need good representative samples of affected parts and you will have to be able to get there on a weekday.

to sum it up ... you can make the outside part disappear.. but there is nothing to do about the interior rot ..

you have a few option ...

hire a certified tree doctor to determine the extent of the rot ... and that might cost some money ... to determine a future course...

prune off the part that has the rot ... though we cant opine on such with this limited pic ... to tell if its a viable issue ...

remove the tree in toto .. and plant a new one ... especially it is of any size.. and might threatens someone or something ...

presuming this is a fruit production tree .. many are rather short lived .. in tree terms ... and when they get beyond some life span.. are not worth saving ... nor spending the money to save them ... but that is always a personal choice ...

please always include where the plant is ...

Looks like the trunk of a Sweet Cherry (Prunus avium). Are you sure this is a Peach? Same difference at any rate, as far as pests and diseases are concerned these are often significant factors when attempting Stone Fruits of all kinds in many areas.
