Need advice what to plant in this container...
Comments (6)The dark leaved begonias in the "Cocktail" series would definitely do well there. They are easy and heat tolerant. I think you could easily grow 3 or 4 in your pot. They will fill in more quickly and give a nice full effect. They are also easy to start from cuttings. I bought a 3 pack that had gotten a bit leggy. I pinched the tops out of them and stuck the tops into the soil in the pot. With daily watering, they rooted and started growing in just a matter of days. Dragon wing begonias would also do well. They have more of a cascading effect, the leaves are larger, and the blooms are more numerous and of a different form than the Cocktails. They come in basically the same color range as Cocktail. Your garden is lovely. What is the blue bloomer? Does it bloom all season long?...See MoreNeed ideas for a rose planting container
Comments (13)Thanks for videos, I finally got them. Now I know why I never peg them to the ground- no room I live in the city! I like rooting my own roses too. I got a poor sick rose from K-Mart knowing it probably wouldn't survive but it was cheap & I always wanted an "Angel Face" rose,it didn't have the 3 branches coming out above the graft like it should have. I babied it along for several years but never did too well. Last winter I trimmed it back & just stuck the thickest piece in the ground & forgot about it. Now I have a healthy new rose. I usually put cinnamon on the cut end I stick in moist ground but didn't with it. My dad could throw anything in a bucket put some water in it & stuff would grow. I have to put it in the ground. Oh, out here they always tell you that cane needs to be cut off even with the bottom of base of rose. He left his sticking up! I also seal the area with Elmer's Glue-All so I don't get rose borer's going in the fresh cut wood! It's cheap & quick! Waterproof after it dries too!Jan...See MoreContainer plant ideas for Spanish front porch
Comments (6)Jenn: I am in SoCal and have a spanish style home with an arcade, also, but mine faces north. I had a Dracaena by my front door for years until it grew too tall. Then it went to the backyard until it grew too tall for the overhang by the back door. I think that is a perfect choice for your (and mine) architecture. I hate to get rid of these "old friends", so I had to put it in a hidden corner. I also had what I think is called Dumb Cane under my porch light. It has now grown too large and is in my hidden corner. I have a very large Mother-in-law's tongue by the front door which has bloomed once in 12 years. It has the most delightful fragrance. It compliments the architecture, also....See MoreIdeas for formal container plants in shady, small area?
Comments (3)I too am having a problem putting something in a large stone pot on a north facing side of my garage. I live in the Las Vegas area so summers are hot and dry but I get very little sun in the late afternoon on that north facing wall. I need some suggestions for a plant that will grow about 3 to 4 feet tall in that pot. Thank you....See MoreLaLennoxa 6a/b Hamilton ON
