Help I.D.ing a bird at a distance with very little information

Well, I know this is asking too much of ya'll. But I'll give it a try. You might be able to at least direct me in the right direction for identifying this bird. I live out in the country (central Indiana). I was riding in my cart around our property around 3:30 p.m. and heard a bird in the distance. It was beyond our woods, in the direction of a field. Around the same time in the same direction I heard a crow with it's "immediate family" call.........it's a clattering call. A friend of mine says they have several different calls, but I really don't think this was a crow. It was a single bird and it's call was about every 20 seconds. It was sort of a melancholy ascending call. I actually remember hearing it last spring too, so it could be a migrating bird. It almost feels like it could be a water bird??

See.........I warned you there wasn't much info to go by! :) Just throw out a few suggestions if you can, and I'll go listen to the calls online.

Thanks!
