Don't worry about what your neighbours may or may not think! just so they behave themselves, lol!!!

To most people, a rose is a tightly wound unscented thing they see at the florist. I bring roses into work and people swear they are peonies or carnations. And they can't believe the fragrance.

Yes - isn't it funny? I have a friend who bought a house right on the beach in Kennebunkport, Maine. She sent me a pictures of a hedge of what she said the locals called "beach plumbs" - wanted to know if I knew what it was. Rugosa roses! They grow very well in coastal Maine. I had to send her a copy of some pics from a rose book (this was a while ago) before she would believe they were roses.

Lol. Or maybe your neighbor has commented to another that you have interesting rose shrubs that she has never seen before... and the woman was curious if the shrub you were trimming was also like mutabilis.

I second Bart's comment to not worry what the neighbors think... but also understand that's hard to do sometimes!

Most of my neighbors are very sweet and try their best to relate when they see me out front trimming. They come by and say things like, "what beautiful knock out roses." Now.... I don't grow knockout roses, so I cringe a little and do my best to hide it. They're trying to start a conversation and they just don't know. Maybe this woman walking by was the same. Just trying to relate.

That is probably it. My neighbor is very sweet, and this is a friendly town, if you are outside in your yard often people will stop and talk for a while.
