My kitchen is rust so it wouldn't help. What color are your cabinets? I've seen some pretty kitchens with white cabinets done in a soft blue like BM Mt Ranier Gray. It's really a pretty color.

Mine is sage green. You should paint it a color that pleases YOU.

One of my kitchens is Benjamin Moores "A Touch Of Grey". It has a blue/silver tint. The whole house is THAT color. The ceilings are flat white ceiling paint by Behr. Backsplashes take up most of the kitchen wall space.

This one is "Parchment White".

Wow your kitchen looks like a magazine photo. Mine is very modest. I like that color it appears blue to me.

Mine was a french country blue and it was ok for awhile but when it came to my getting to pick the color, I went with a sort of light ochre color.

Homberg Gray, Sherwin Williams. Not even close to a muted color. It's crisp white cabinets and a complementary back splash. It's very open and has south facing windows. This link is the one that shows the true color it is, it's hard to capture. The after pictures are it. I don't have a picture of my kitchen. I'll have to do that some day.

Omg my entire house would fit in your kitchens. The blues make me happy lol. Murraysmom I wouldn't mind your kitchen one bit it is soothing. I would like a shelf like that above my sink. Oh I see it is a window sill. Mine are narrow.

Rob, I really like your color and the fact that it sounds like you have a lot of light, I bet it is stunning!! My concern would be that it would be too dark, but sunlight can really make a room.

Thanks! Believe it or not, it needed to cool down. It was blistering every day, and now it's reasonable.

Mine is a very pale green called 'Leafy Lettuce' by Kelly Moore. I really like it and have not got tired of it even after 10 years. I find it difficult to pick paint colors for kitchens and bathrooms.

Here is my remodeled kitchen from 10 years ago. These pictures do make the paint look more yellowish than green.

My kitchen

My kitchen walls are a cornbread yellow and the trim around the windows is brick red that matches our hearth bricks. The floor is hickory hardwood and the appliances are black. I matched the trim to the bricks because our kitchen/living room area is one big room - what they call a great room, I guess and the woodstove and brick hearth is in the center of that big room.

When I first set up my jewelry studio, I went to the hardware store to pick out paint. I knew I was done with white walls, but didn't really know what I wanted. The paint guy said to me that no one should live without color in their lives and I took that to heart when selecting the paint for the studio which has one wall that is bright robin's egg blue, two walls in a light mocha and the trim is chocolate brown. I LOVE spending time in that room.

You'll be the one using the kitchen. Take your friends advice into consideration, but in the end, buy the color you want and like. No one knows you like you know you.

sage green & tan

My kitchen doesn't have a lot of walls, but what there is is this sort of teal-y colour

My colour is actually the "Magnetic Magic" in the middle (where the heck do they get these names from???)

Most of the kitchen is white, as it's mostly cupboards and the refrigerator/freezer pair. The subway tiling on the splashbacks is white with a top feature row of rustic looking white with dark teal country style flowers with a flourish in either direction, the countertops are granite patterned laminex and the floor is dark blue and black. The 10' ceiling is a quarter strength mix of the wall colour and white. I chose the colours nearly 30 years ago and I still like them :-)

My kitchen is a very soft gray blue. I really like it.

Butter yellow, very soft.

My kitchen is very small. My husband completely rehabbed the little house we bought as our "pre-retirement" house. He painted almost every room beige... so I told him I'd pick the kitchen color - went with a dark rust type color which doesn't sound that appealing but it actually turned out great! (whew!)

Currently it's chocolate brown, like a Hershey bar with white cabinets. We are renovating and putting in natural hickory cabs and I plan to do the walls a deep red. I am like DawnInCal. I got tired of living with safe neutrals in my home.

I had wanted a pink and white painted kitchen but was talked out of that so the next best paint colour for me was lemon meringue yellow. I love the brightness of it. I have seen many blue painted kitchens with yellow accent pieces, kind of French looking.

creamy yellow gold, Hinoki, SW... the sample looks Nothing like IRL., trust me. its so warm, i love it. i have expresso stained cabs....

The little bit of wall space we have is painted Behr Raffia Creme. I tried a few colors but they always seemed to over power the room.

Jim that is lovely. I was trying for that kind of yellow for a bedroom and ended up with a phycadelic shade? Yellow is hard to get right.

Two things. First, I found yet another thing I must fix from the flippers did (not like Nicole or me). Second, this is not the color I would have picked what. Just went with what they had.

A very long time ago,I did my kitchen in a wedgewood blue and linen and the counter top then was a butcher block....sharp looking

What I have found......is a dark or unusual color can be used as a decorative backsplash, with a decorative shape, where paint is not well received. It's like an accent wall...only no longer done with paint. :0) That teal green you posted is now offered in a shiny Moroccan tile.

I like blue a lot, but don't have much luck with it as wall colors. I think I like blue too much and then I decorate with blue on blue and it doesn't work at least in the main areas of my house. I prefer yellow as a wall color, but this house was freshly painted beige when we bought it from the builder. I wasn't about to increase the mortgage for them to add more paint. Like you I want a different color in my kitchen, but haven't decided on what I want yet. I'll paint it myself. There isn't much wall space there and it is only one story so I can reach it.

Use a color that YOU like, one that makes you happy and comfortable. My kitchen is white with pale blue countertops, white and oak cabinets, and a Saltillo tile floor. The rest of my house is a very pale blue, kind of like a very light Wedgewood. It is cool and calming to me. I live in a hot climate, and it seems the world is full of stress and agitation, I want my home to be my refuge, the cool, calming colors accomplish that.

Rusty

Kitchens are the center of homes: A workplace, laboratory, calling room for drop in friends, and the family board room. My preference in color is something light and airy, not dark and gloomy.

I do recall a time and place where the the head female of the house chose kitchen colors based on practical consideration of the equipment therein, mainly a wood burning kitchen stove. The predominate color of that cast iron stove was black with maybe some polished plated trim. Over a period of use, the other color was smoke and soot stains. Housewives desired white ceilings, but in deference to practicality, chose tans because it showed smoke stains less. Thankfully, today's kitchen manager has better color options. I mentioned the beforehand information because it had an influence on color schemes of kitchens a 100 years ago.

My kitchen is Fieldstone gray by Benjamin Moore. The cabinets are kind of an orangey wood that I don't like. I think I'm going to have them painted white this summer.

coralee7 - Thanks for the compliment. Like other people have said, go with what you like. The green we choose was something DH and I both agreed on and liked. But you could do what my twin sister and paint it as wild as you want. BTW she lives in FL.

watchme, I love the color scheme you are planning for your kitchen. Red is a strong bold color and it is going to look gorgeous with the hickory cabinets.

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions and pictures. You have convinced me to go with what I like. Gray/blue it is. My cupboards are old painted white. Remodeling is not in the budget at this point. There is much wall space opposite the cupboards.

My kitchen is white. I hate it. Want to change the color but I haven't given a lot of thought to what color. I've been too busy to even think of it.

Marilyn mine is a camel color. Sometimes I feel like I live in a peanut shell and other times I barely notice. But I never like it.
