Bay tree?

@tropicbreezent I have a magnolia right next to it and they look totally different, so i am pretty sure this one is not. its leaves are quite tiny compare to magnolia. Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.
@ p2756v I am not sure, it has no flower or seed at the moment so i can't tell, i googled bay tree photo, they look quite similar except the veins on the leaves of this tree look more symmetrical than the bay tree's

I tried a couple of image search apps on the OPs behalf and their guess is it's a shrub. Not surprising since their guess about the tree I'm trying to identify is it's a plant. I tried a zoomed photo of the OPs leaves and the image search apps guessed a flower. (face palm)

The image search apps don't do what we think they do, Sylvester B Neese. Apparently they did once, but copyright law changed all that. Image search apps look for that EXACT image elsewhere on the internet.

I tried my tree photos on Plant Net with zero expectations, too, since Plant Net is run by and for Europeans and North Americans. Hopefully, it will broaden to include Aussie plants in time or we'll have something similar of our own.

Vincient Edward, there are 210 species in the Magnolia genus which now includes Michelias, as well, since they've been reclassified. Your tree looks like a standard Magnolia to me, too. Not all the Magnolias have big leaves or brown backed leaves. The sweetbay has pale silvery green backed leaves. The Magnolias formerly known as Michelias have green leaves, front and back. And there's been a lot of work cross breeding Magnolias with the old Michelias. It would make sense for fragrance lovers to plant two Magnolias that flower at different times.
