marine hardware on pocket door to pantry?

I will be putting a pocket door on the pantry I will be getting built, but I'm frustrated trying to find a handle/pull that I like and feel comfortable with. Most of the flush pulls are simply too shallow, and I don't want hardware that will stick out to keep the door from being fully recessed into its pocket. This is for my pantry door, so it doesn't need a latch or lock.

I wonder about some flush ring or handle pulls, the type that are often made for marine applications.....could they be used? I see Lee Valley makes some for chests, calling them recess handles, and a few other woodworking sites have some options. Is there any reason something like that wouldn't work?
