Question about Cottonseed Meal
Comments (15)and is not acceptable to most organic growers. As determined by who, exactly? It is most certainly advocated by numerous organic gardening websites and organizations and is also approved - with conditions - by OMRI. About the only growers who might have a legitimate issue are those who are certified organic. Certainly a large population of home gardeners who follow organic principles include it in their supplies. And why GE'd crops should necessarily be excluded from discussions of organic gardening should also be up for discussion. There is nothing inherently evil about GE'd plants. In fact, one of the primary reasons crops are genetically engineered is to make them resistant to certain diseases and insects so less chemical intervention is required. That is most definitely the reason behind cotton being included in this category. We would all be a lot better off if we took the time to do some independent research rather than the blind adherence to a popular but uninformed point of view. Let's use a little independent thinking, folks!! btw, the PBS program Quest: The Science of Sustainability had an extremely informative program on genetic engineering recently that should be required viewing for anyone with question about this topic. Since I deal with the public on matters like this, it never ceases to amaze me how woefully misinformed or uninformed the vast majority of the general public is....See MoreWhy is my dog eating rosetone?
Comments (15)Oh, yes...the cat poo from the litter box. Yes, he will eat that too! That's why we have to keep him locked out of the cat's room! I'm going to water it in really well and hopefully that will fix the problem. If it won't hurt him I don't mind so much, but I don't want him to be throwing up either!...See MoreAlfalfa Meal - How Much?
Comments (11)I am in FL with similar temps but the amount of rainfall/watering may be different. In a normal summer we'll have a couple inches a month but it hasn't been normal for years. I have desert conditions whereas rain falls more inland Florida where many vegetable farms are located. In the past my fert. schedule has been a cup or two (dep. on rose size) of alfalfa pellets plus some time release Dynamite fert. pellets twice a year, say March and then September. But I just "invested" in a more complete once-a-year fertilizer when I saw how beautiful CoolRoses plants looked. They graft roses onto Fortuniana and are on Florida's east coast (I'm on FL west coast). Since using this fertilizer mix my roses as well as other plants really got a boost this year. Johnny Becnels "once a year" rose fertilizer (from coolroses.com) 2 c. fish meal 1 c. time release fertilizer pellets 2 Tb. blood meal 1/2 c. alfalfa 1/2 c. epsom salts 1/2 c. dolomitic lime 1/2 c. Milorganite 1/2 c. gypsum pellets The hardest ingredient to find in my small town was the fish meal because the local source was horribly expensive. Amazon had it much less expensive and FREE SHIPPING. How does this vendor make any money, it was 25 lbs! Here's that link http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Earth-749-Fish-25-Pound/dp/B0047BIW9E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1306592341&sr=8-3 Denise Here is a link that might be useful: coolroses.com-fertilizer recipe at bottom...See MoreAlfalfa meal....
Comments (16)In my town, I know of 3 stores where I can buy alfalfa for roses: 1. A locally owned "feed store" which also has dog grooming, so they are not exactly oriented to farmers. 2. Tractor Supply, a chain store. 3. A locally owned nursery and garden center that sells roses, perennials, bulbs, trees, shrubs, annuals, etc., as well as all the tools and supplies and seeds that an avid gardener could ever want. In their area that has all the fertilizers, soil amendments, and pesticides, they sell 50-pound bags of alfalfa meal of the same brand and packaging as the feed store. They also sell a full line of Espoma products including Espoma's 3-pound bag of alfalfa meal....See MoreCori Ann - H0uzz violated my privacy
