Comments (13)I thought I responded a couple days ago -I guess it's gone to cyber space. Hurricane CHarley knocked down 5 huge trees on my property, there was no damage to our house or the houses next door so I considered that a warning and now have no tall trees at all. We are 11 ft above sea level and a block from a tidal canal so I am somewhat concerned about flooding although we've never had any flooding the 29 years we've been in this house. If we have a hurricane warning I can drop the shade and put the orchids on the pea gravel that's there and maybe just cover them with the shade fabric. If we have flooding,I'll have bigger concerns than my orchids. I'm going to contact the sprinkler guy and find out how realistic it would be to run a pipe to the area and put in a sprinkler head. We are allowed to use sprinkler water twice a week for four hours so it would be a nice back up water plan....See MoreSilverfish in my closet eating my clothes
Comments (4)Moth cakes from Fuller Brush work well to protect clothes in closets. A few minutes out of the closet there will be little or no smell to clothes. (I am not connected with Fuller Brush in any way.) Freezing clothes or other items will kill silverfish, moths, and eggs. I have frozen clothes and items in a large chest type freezer for a week or two with success. Roach Proof is boric acid and works well. As another poster mentioned, puff it into all cracks and crevices of closets....See MoreSpiders and moths in clothes closet, oh my!!
Comments (10)I have found some herbal moth repellent sachets. I don't know if they work, though. You might try the moth traps, too. I use them in my pantry. They DO work. http://www.pantrymothtrap.com/ Everyone swears by bay leaves in the pantry, maybe if you hung nets bags full of bay leaves in your closets it would repel critters. Spiders, I don't know a natural solution. When I moved into this house 21 years ago it was infested with fat little brown house spiders of some sort. In the summer they would come out at night and crawl up the walls and the ceiling. I found one swimming in my bedside water glass early one morning. I finally resorted to pest control but only on the outside of the house, never inside. After a while I had no more spiders. Here is a link that might be useful: Moth repellent....See MoreMay I please see your closet? (clothing)
Comments (39)Sheesharee, my DH and I are just getting ready to finish the built-in storage in our two closets, which are about the same dimensions as yours. We are doing L-shaped storage, that is, along two walls, so there's enough room to comfortably stand/dress in there. We're doing built-in stacks of shoe/sweater shelves, with double hanging bars on one wall and singles on the other. The empty wall will have hooks for robes, belts, etc. Each closet will also have a rolling laundry hamper we can easily roll down the hall to the washer/dryer area. I carefully planned it all out depending on the measurements of what we each need to store. It will probably end up costing us about $250 in materials by the time we're done. I'll try to post some photos once the main component are installed, and then later (hopefully by next weekend!) when it's all painted and has clothes in it :) We have been living out of piles and remote closets and basement boxes for over a year now since we had to gut this part of the house due to a mold problem and bathroom renovation. It's been so frustrating not knowing where stuff is. I am sooooooooooo looking forward to having nice, organized closets!...See More- 9 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
