Opinion needed on Kohler Pinstripe Shower?

Hi, I have been doing a lot of online research on the Kohler Pinstripe Collection. I am building a walk in shower. Its an alcove cast iron base that is 36" x 60". I plan on having a single shower head and also a separate hand shower. I really like the looks of the pinstripe grooved cross in polished chrome. It really stands out in my eyes. ( ex: K-TS13134-3B-CP) Rite-temp Pressure Balanced Shower Valve. It seems like there is a lot of different model numbers associated with this when I go on the internet. Do certain letters and numbers mean a generic version or a high quality version? Is this collection made in the USA? Its not very clear about any of that. If i am going to be spending a lot of money, I want to make sure that I am getting the highest quality model in the collection. I have been looking on eBay, build.com, amazon, faucets.com, etc.. I do see information about some parts of the collection being discontinued, but can't seem to find any reasons why. I also can't find many reviews on this shower line. I do like it, because its different and simplified. Any info or reviews that anybody has would be greatly appreciated. Im going to have to figure this out soon!

I would not buy the pieces separately. Buy from all one source, and have them help you get the right parts. I have done several bathrooms, and I've used faucet direct.

The jacuzzi allusion 72 x 36 is sitting on my back porch... ready to be installed (hopefully within the next month or so). I did sit in it, as did my husband, and it seems comfortable. He is 6'1" and was able to completely stretch his legs. It does seem rather narrow and deep, but it's the look we wanted, very clean lines. BTW, I ordered from homeclick.com who had the best price I could find, $3001 delivered, no tax or shipping.

Sorry, not yet! New build so we are just at the drywall and paint stage, no tile or vanities in yet. Actually, vanities probably are going in this week. I got the same medicine cabinets as pps7 from RH, and the same Kohler memoirs sinks. Our vanities are espresso, and my flooring is dark wood-look tile. The counters are carrera, and there is a backsplash above the vanities which are carrera subways along with the shower walls. We have chrome wall mounted faucets. Overall pretty similar to pps7 except with a darker floor and my fixtures are more contemporary/modern rather than traditional. The paint color is Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore. Hopefully, it will come out nice, but it's all just starting to come together now!

I love my tub. It feels very solid, but it was installed on a mortar base per the manufacturer's installation instructions. You can do a search for Kohler 5' archer and open the manufacturer's website link. They have a file you can download that has complete installation instructions and complete specs. It does have some sort of nonskid texture on the bottom of the tub. It is very comfortable to me. Mine is the whirlpool with the in-line heater. I don't have any regrets with my choice. Something I really like is the horizontal overflow. That allows for more water depth, yet the step over height is only 19 inches.

This is a no-brainer for me - - SHOWER CURTAIN!!!! I LOVE the look of a traditional tie back fabric curtain on the outside of my walk-in shower with a mold and mildew resistant plastic shower curtain (NOT A LINER) inside. The fabric curtain stays beautiful and only gets washed once in a blue moon. The plastic (non PVC) curtains which I buy in Walmart for $8 get tossed out every 6 months. That beats the extra $1,000 for installing doors. I never have a problem with water getting on the floor. I simply have to make sure the plastic inner curtain is inside the base of the shower plate----just as I would have to make sure the shower doors were closed if I had doors. I can't stand shower doors. Mold builds up in the tracks or collects along the bottom even with frameless doors. Who wants to squeegee the glass doors and wipe them down on a regular basis? Not me-I often take 2 showers a day, especially in the summer.

According to the Kohler website the Pinstipe comes in a cross and a lever style so those obviously have different model numbers. The Cross comes in 2 versions, grooved and smooth. The smooth one is called Pinstripe Pure. Each version has a its own model number. Kohler shows that the Pinstripe comes in 3 finishes. The letters after the model number indicate the finish- polished chrome, vibrant polished nickel or brushed satin nickel.

The number you gave above is for the shower head and the valve trim together, the 3B in the model number is for the grooved handle. The smooth (Pure) version is is a 3A.

The valve trim is also sold separately so it has its own number.

The Kohler website notes that the Pinstripe collection has a new version of trim that works with 2 types of valves. The old version that worked with only the one valve is probably what is discontinued

"THIS NEW K-TS13134-3B TRIM REPLACES THE EXISTING K-T13134-3B TRIM. THE NEW TRIM IS IDENTICAL AND INCLUDES TRIM ADAPTER KITS FOR BOTH RITE-TEMP K-304/K-2971 HIFLOW AND THE NEW K-8304 SERIES VALVE."

The Pinstripe used to come in a gold and bronze finish too so those might be some of the discontinued items you are coming across.

Don't forget besides that in addition to the on-off/temperature valve you will need to buy a transfer valve and its trim so that you can operate both the fixed shower head and the handheld at the same time or individually. The valve trim # is K-T13175-3P CP

The valves themselves are sold separately from the trim.
