Are you happy with your Omega Dynasty cabinets?
Comments (16)I ordered the Omega Dynasty, with Shaker doors and slab-front drawers, installed January 2015. I chose Omega because I couldn't find any other cabinet with the Portobello color. Not even four years later I am regretting this decision. The cabinets look great, however, have several fatal flaws. The Shaker frame is not beveled. Therefore, water and moisture roll down the inset panel and collect in the frame, causing warping and bubbling of the painted finish. Even the flat-front drawers collect moisture, causing drip-size warps along the bottom. This is unacceptable. Even though we wipe the cabinets after cooking and washing dishes, kitchens are WET. Cabinets must be designed to withstand moisture. Furthermore, every edge of every cabinet door is showing chips and wear, exposing the wood under the paint. We don't have pets or small children, so there is not anything unusually intense about our use of the kitchen. The company (Masterbrand) is standing behind their cabinets and has replaced most of the affected drawer fronts and doors. However, the cabinet box frames are also showing considerable wear (even cracks in sink base frame), and those cannot be replaced. Again, this is unacceptable for a premium-priced product after less than four years of average use. Ironically, I purchased a less-expensive Masterbrand cabinet (Thomasville) from Home Depot for my master bathroom vanity. Also painted Shaker style, but with beveled frames and mitered drawers. No signs whatsoever of paint wear, chipping or warping. The vanity looks as good as new. Not so my kitchen....See MoreOmega Dynasty vs Dynasty II Doors...and...wood vs wood veneer
Comments (9)Thanks everyone! I think the $7,000 difference also covered a few other changes we made...but some added some subtracted. However, the majority of it comes from the door change. I think about $1,000 came from postponing the 3 decorative doors on the side of the peninsula facing the DR + furniture base. By eliminating one of the single wall ovens (was going to be undercounter) and moving a MW drawer there, we actually added to the cost (~300) of that cabinet since it will now have at least one drawer + the MW. We also eliminated the breadbox (~400 savings there). Lastly, we postponed the Message Center on the end of the Pantry (~1,300). Over the next few years we plan to add the "postponed" items. One of the additional things we did to whittle away at the cost was to eliminate the backsplash. I've noticed that quite a few people put off the backsplash until later and, from what I've read here, it should be relatively easy to add later. I'm trusting all of you on that! Maybe I'll even try my hand at DIYing it (scares me though!) With the door & other cabinet changes made, postponing the backsplash, downgrading our appliances, and postponing other things (Vinnata faucet, new toilet, 2nd GD), we've managed to bring the cost down to something we think we can swing w/o going into debt...that's our goal, financially! Who knows...in a few years if I still want the Artesia door I can always buy them and replace the current doors! (After we "add back' the postponed items!) Again, thanks everyone for helping me feel better about this whole ordeal!...See MoreBrookhaven by Wood Mode vs. Omega Dynasty: best painted finish?
Comments (1)I know nothing about Omega but I had Wood-Mode in my kitchen and Brookhaven in the rest of the house (built in 2003). The finish on both was beautiful and flawless. My kd on our new house carries WM (which I am not getting this time) and says that Brookhaven is even better than it was back then....See MoreHelp picking cabinet stain for vanity--Omega Dynasty
Comments (0)We've selected Omega Dynasty in clear alder in the Beckwith door style and need to pick the stain. We are working with a cool color palette of white, off-white, and blue-gray in the granite and want to avoid red and yellow undertones in the vanity. Our home is casual traditional. The stain colors that I think may work is Chestnut, but it's darker than I'd like, or Sage. I like the lighter color of Sage better but does it work with the granite? Granite is White Ice. Backsplash tile will be a light blue-gray ceramic. Floor tile is cream. Beckwith door. The small sample is Chestnut stain on alder. Sage stain on knotty alder. Granite. Note that it's wet where another remnant was laying against it so it appears darker. Beckwith with a dark stain on cherry. Delicatus granite, which is creamier than White Ice....See MoreMountain MT Homes LLC
