I think you need a much bigger coffee table to match the proportions of the room, rug and couch, bigger than the usual 36 inch ones most stores sell. You could do round, glass too would be nice so it doesn't feel too closed in. I would also add an accent chair facing diagonal into the couch, maybe two so that the coffee table is more central. Love that you layered the rugs, the top rug needs to be bigger tho to be proportionate to the under rug. So much potential!

I like glass -- you can have a big one but it doesn't feel big because you can see through it -- a word of warning, though, because you have DOG blankets, you must have dogs . . . if you do get a glass one, get one that they cannot go under . . . we had one that they could and had nose prints on it all the time on the underside that drove me nuts! So I replaced with a wood one that they couldn't get under! Still liked the glass one, but . . .

Have you considered an ottoman that is square? I think proportionately it might work better.

I think glass would look great. I saw a cool nesting coffee table on overstock.

I like that it is a bit unexpected and has some visual interest. I think it would look great in your beautiful living room!

Michele, it's a work in progress!! The current ottoman is 48" so kind of tight. I do need a chair by the FP- undecided whether leather or fabric. And needs to stand with huge stone FP. That rug photos horribly- it's much more muted IRL?

I'm really liking the nesting glass tables! I could use one as a side table by my chaise & put magazines in a basket below. Hmmmmmmm

I used to have a sectional with a similar shape, our table was square and it worked for us. I think a combination square and glass would be pretty. The thing about those big sectionals is that they are naturally a heavy space eatting piece of furniture. Adding a solid ottoman or table just adds to that.

How do you use your "coffee table"? It seems silly to need a table and have a seat. If mostly people put their feet up--I get it. But if a tray is needed..I would definitely go with a hard surface table.

This was the set up we had and the table was very similar in design.

If it's lightening the look you're after, I think you can't go wrong with a big glass table. I especially like the size, shape, and overall look of the second one that Lukki posted. However, since you have pets, be prepared to clean nose and/or paw smudges off the top of the table on a regular basis.

If glass doesn't work with the dog, what about a light colored marble coffee table.

I really like kilm ottomans and think one would look nice in there. I think glass would also look nice, but I wouldn't want to put my feet up on glass (we use our ottoman for feet) or deal with smudges. I like k9arlene's idea of a marble table too. Something a little unexpected.

Who's your sectional by?

I think a leggy (crossed legged) round table with a hammered metal top would fit nicely. It would be durable, transitional, and versatile. You could go anywhere from copper to silver metal. Either would work if not too dinky. It would have to be large. And yes, you could put your feet on it. Lovely room.

I also had lamps made from these old iron balustrades showing the colors I'm very drawn to right now. Are they too tall for console table behind sofa?

Plan is to have them next to tv on longer media console cabinet, but that isn't going to happen for awhile!

I like the ottoman. I think it's the right size, looks to be of nice quality, and I love barley twist. Removing the other rug did help lighten things.

I do think the lamps appear a little tall for on the console table.

Shee, I went with Ashley furniture. I've had to weed through so much stuff & practically give it away & just couldn't justify an expensive sectional. I really wanted Lee industries slip cover. And, I wasnt sure if I'd like a sectional vs the versatility of sofa & cpl of chairs. I think a room looks better-more interesting with sofa &chairs. However, we can have friends over &tall lounge so comfortably on this sectional!!

I love your coffee table! It is perfect! I agree that the lamps are a bit too tall. Either way your room looks amazing. I wouldn't think I would say this but I think I prefer the room without the top rug. Nice work!!

Im going to try Howard's restore a finish to bring it back to life a little. Or any other suggestions of products without doing a refinish?

Is the finish worn on the table? I've never used Howard's but I believe it has good reviews.

I'm due for new furniture soon. I'm hoping next year. I'd like to get a sectional and have been searching on and off for a while now. The darn things aren't cheap. I was seriously considering Ethan Allen but the newer reviews are bad. Apparently the furniture is made now in Mexica. I would be very unhappy paying that much and having it not hold up. Our currently paisley furniture is Ashley and, besides the sun fading that's our fault for not having blinds for years, I think it's held up very well. It is SO comfortable. I do dislike that I can't flip the cushions. I've been doing it anyhow when it's just at the house to get more even wear. Point to my rambling Ashley was one of the places I considered again. Seems like a majority of the furniture now days is made of about the same quality.
