I read the book several years ago, and LOVED it! I can't imagine the movie not being good unless they just completely change the whole story.

Well I didn't really like the novel so I don't think I'll be watching the movie, just my opinion.

I will definitely see the movie, even though so far the reviews aren't so great. Donna, I'm with you - I thought the book was mind blowing! I read it twice and I have given away 2 copies of it after discussion with friends and DH read it also, but he had a hard time with it and he can't decide if he'll go with me to see the movie or not. I thought it was a stunning book.

I think I tried to read it 3-4 times. The cover looked good then I realized I couldn't get through it and quit. I may go to the movie tomorrow with some friends.

I haven't seen the movie but would like to. The author of the book was a guest speaker at a women's retreat on Mackinac Island several years ago.

Yes, it is a religious story, not my style either (usually). I saw it at Barnes & Noble as an 'employee choice' and just picked it up on a whim and well, it gave me such a nice, new perspective :)

A friend just gave me a copy of the book, and I will try to read it.......I don't ordinarily read religious stories, unless the writing is very well done.

I read the book. There were parts that were hard, like the beginning with the daughter. I did like the book. Yes, it is religious, about God loving everyone and how to heal your own soul through forgiveness. I don't consider it over the top in your face religious. It was very non-denominational as I recall.

I won't see the movie BECAUSE I read the book, I don't like tear jerkers. I hate to cry. It would be like going to see Marley and Me, um, NO. Don't care how good the book is, I know what happens.

The Shack is a fictional story and we need to see it as such......it is definitely NOT biblical... read the reviews, but it is a touching story.

You are so right phoggie. I just got home from seeing it. The non-religious person would say its a religious story but it is not bible. It has good thoughts & values, its not a tear jerker at all. They have God playing a black women, then a male Indian.

I found it quite confusing with all the flashbacks. I would not go again if it were free. The ladies I went with seemed to enjoy it but I don't see it as a "Christian" movie. My friends preacher was against people going to the movie. It is definitely a work of fiction. Some parts were good and kinda normal but other parts were like a fantasy.

I read the book as part of an urging to the congregation by our pastor. Man, I hated it. Not that I found anything disagreeable about it at all, but it just wasn't my style. I was in the minority (but not alone). No, I won't be seeing the movie.

I watched the movie trailer. Looks like the theme is, to enjoy life to it's fullest even if your given some rough spots? I remember working with a woman who's young daughter had drown, then she purchased her 1st home and it had an indoor pool(in Colorado no one has an indoor pool). I was flummoxed. How could she? Same theme as this movie....right? How to carry on after a tragedy?
