Elephant ears in zone 7 (DC metro area) questions

Hello

Today I bought two types of elephant ears:

1) Mammoth elephant ears

2) Upright elephant ears

Each one is said to get very tall. The 2nd one I think could get 8 feet high.

I'm in zone 7, DC metro area.

Just a few questions:

1) Can I put them in a pot and let them sprout inside while I wait for the ground to warm up outside?

2) Once they sprout, how long until they reach 4-8 feet? I asked many people at the garden store today this but no one was sure. In other words, could they reach their max height by mid summer? At the garden store they said they were very fast growing. How fast are we talking?

3) In the winter if I dig them up and bring the bulbs inside, how do I store them best?

4) If I plant next to our fig or weeping river birch is that ok? As long as I keep everyone moist (besides fig) and happy?

Thanks so much
