If your aloe does not recover, keep in mind you can return it at Walmart. Walmart's practice is to NOT water any of their perennials. The store is reimbursed for plants that die, so it loses no money, but it takes money to pay an employee to water, so plants purchased there are often in irreversible shape, but I have "rescued" some from there. Remove the plant and give it fresh soil and pot. It needs far more sun, it comes from, they believe from Northern Africa. (those who studied this species) I live in a hot arid inland valley , I grow mine in the sun. Don't move the locatiion quickly or you will burn the plant. Don't let the tips touch the glass windows. I notice that you are from Scotland. For sure the poor plant will need more sun. The leaves should be stiff and growning upright, and not spread out. L.E. Newton thinks it came from Arabia it is widely cultivated in Mediterranean areas (since ancient times)Also found growing in India and the West Indies. This information was copied right out of a book. What I'm getting at is that is loves the heat, and good sun. Make sure it is growing in at least a gallon size container, with good fast draining mix. Remember to fertilize, give fresh air to breath, it will need good air circulation. The dry tips could be caused by a drying out of the soil, too much water, to much artifical heat. So many things come into play. Many species naturally grow with dry tips. Sansevieria come to mind. Norma

Add Would you say that your soil has a high orgnic componest or did they call it cactus soil.? If it is cactus soil add an equal part of pumice, perlite or other nonorganic gritty subtance. Not sand. Sand is actually not goo in a pot envoronment. But is good in a outdoor situation. If it is normal soil I would up the inorganic ratio. maybe get it closer to 65- 75 % of the finish mix.

Thanks for the reply. I've just repotted it and the roots are about half way down I reckon. They were quite long and fiddly so I had to move them about! It was originally in cactus soil and I have just repotted it into cactus soil again. Here is another pic
