appliance selection for reno esp. fridge help!
Comments (2)Hi This is my first post, but I did a ton of reading on this site so I guess it's time to give back! We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel and the major appliances are installed since July 5th. In our new kitchen we choose the Elux Wave Touch oven EW30EW5CGS (single 30 inch) based on the feedback we read on this site. I can only assume the double oven you are looking at will be as nice as the single one we purchased. The wave touch control works very well and is not so hard to use or to keep clean. The single oven takes about 7 minutes to go from room temp to 350F using the rapid preheat or 10 minutes if using normal mode. The two easy glide racks are very smooth, Interior lights are also very good. But most important it bakes very well. For the refrigerator we also decided to go counter depth for many reasons. First, we have a large freezer in the basement and another full size refrigerator in the garage. Second, our kitchen is small and the fridge and oven are on the same wall, so going counter depth makes for a nicer layout in our case. We looked at many refrigerators from LG, Samsung, Jen-Air, KitchenAid, GE etc, but my wife fell in love with the Elux French Door counter depth model EW23BC85KS also with Wave touch. It's not too small at 22.6 cu ft for a counter depth fridge, but still fits nicely in a 24 inch depth cabinet unlike some models we looked at that are advertised as counter depth but have a 28 inch depth. The Elux refrigerators received many bad reviews in the last few years because of the many problems with the ice maker. However the new models released this year have new ice makers and so far they seem to work very well. The only negative on the fridge, the water coming from the dispenser is not cold. But for us this is minor since the fridge produces enough ice (dual ice maker) to please a polar bear or to keep up with a family of six (4 kids) during the hot summer weeks we just experienced. In this model all the drawers are self closing, also a nice touch. Good luck in your decision making process it's not easy... ....See MoreQuestion on fridge hole dimensions for resale, please help
Comments (8)Look up the installment specifications for several 36" wide refrigerators on manufacturer websites. I think you will find that most manufacturers require more than 36 inches for clearance. One would assume that refrigerator sides are straight...they are not....they often "bow out." Spacing on the sides and back is also required for circulation and warrantee. A 36 inch opening may be too tight to slide a regular "36"ish" fridge into...it might not fit!...See MoreShould I consider this look for a built-in fridge?
Comments (10)I had to do some fancy searching to find this thread LOL Ok remember please that our kitchen is NOT finished. Included in the not finished group would be the fridge cabinet which will have a bead on the inside like the rest of the inset doors do when I hire a new contractor. The doors on the right will also have full cherry (the ones over the entry) verses the little holes they have now. And, because I know this space has to be emptied soon, I have't actually arranged the platters and bowls up there as they will be. The future arrangement will have one big white platter in the front with a couple of pretty farm house bowls on top and then all the other stuff stuffed back behind that (which you can't see because it's so deep). What I like about this cabinet is it's storage ability, but also it kills the akward little space people end up with above a tall fridge. Having cabinets to continue the molding around makes it fit in really nicely, even in a small space like mine: I was trying to get in all views but my chandelier blocks that last one a bit...I wanted to show how the molding flows....oh well, use your imagination :oP...See MoreHelp! I think my cabinet over fridge is wrong.
Comments (10)Update: I posted elsewhere but it's not showing up. Basically, they redid it and it's still wrong! I'll copy my post here. New construction, but kitchen is completely finished. The frigadaire all fridge all freezer was to be built in with trim kit. They made the hole wrong. Supposed to be 25 1/4" deep MINIMUM. They did 24". The front of the counter is 25 1/4 but they have it flush with the cabinets. Supposed to be 66" wide. They did 67 7/8". Supposed to be 75" or 79". They did 79 1/8". They aren't willing to take out cabinets and redo soffit and such. The width I think can be fixed by taking out fillers and bringing the broom cabinet on the end in. The height isn't off much, maybe can have a filler put in between top of fridge and under cabinets. But what do we do about the depth? How can we make the front look right? They basically said if we come up with an idea on how to fix it and they do it, we are stuck with whatever they do, whether we like the end result or not....See MoreUser
