Ants nesting IN my orchid pot media
Comments (13)The previous post needs to be ignored. No doubt there are quality symbiotic ant/plant relationships. The article goes on about the varied plant life that enjoy ants. But there is nothing about the fact that not any ant species is a friend. Some are neither friend or foe and could be neutral. But there are ants that will cause tremendous damage. I've been invaded by several species of invasive non domestic ants. White footed asian, Bahamian crazy ants and others. Came here through the port of Miami. Around 100 miles away. Some ants are excellent farmers. They bring immobile sucking bugs then eat the secretions. Very harmful to the orchids and a lot more. The right ants in the right place are fine. But in this modern world of rapid cargo transportation, invasive and harmful plants, animals, and bugs is a big problem getting bigger....See MoreRe-Potting Orchid
Comments (5)Thanks richardol - I will repot again and cut off the long roots. I thought about doing that but, since I know nothing about orchids, I wasn't sure about trimming the roots. It seems there were a lot of wood chips in the original pot. Do they sell a specific soil for orchids like they do for cactus or would a cactus mix be OK for an orchid? I'm not sure what you mean when you asked - What is on the first part of the tag? I'm not familiar with Lc, Onc? What does that mean? Thanks again for your info....See MoreSNOW is coming: I made a big pot of chili and you're all invited!
Comments (28)Hmmm, I think we should be over in conversations with the way this thread is going but....I'll suffer my 6 lashes with a wet noodle for adding my two cents. Indian Fry Bread, I wonder if that's the same as the bread made by making a dough out of flour and oil, rolled into a small ball, flattened, then deep fried. It puffs up when it's cooked. This little restaurant we go to served this with a Chickpea curry one day, Annette with her forward ways ended up in the kitchen watching how the bread was made. Yup, I got the recipe for the curry too :o). Annette...See MoreRe-pot big old lemon tree
Comments (9)I agree with mikerno_1micha, though I wouldn't do it any later than father's day. I usually repot my citrus after the very first flush of new growth in the spring, provided weather permits it being outside for the warm season. If you haven't root pruned it lately, I'd recommend doing that as well. You'll want to completely replace all of the soil with something fast draining(not miracle grow citrus/cactus mix, too much sand). There are many mixes folks here recommend, search for gritty mix or 511 mix. I usually use a high quality potting soil and amend it with perlite, pine bark. I'd also love to see a picture. I have a lemon tree that's pushing 10 years myself and I've enjoyed caring for it over the years. I have my first flower ever about to open too. Good luck!...See Morelinda_leaf _z10a_southwest_fl
