What is a reasonable/ average cost for kitchen cabinets?
Comments (14)Go on down to Home Depot with your kitchen measurements in hand and get them to draw up a design in a middling cabinet line. Ask them for a middling suggestion. Home Depot doesn't pay their people on commission so you aren't costing the employee money by taking up his/her time when you probably aren't actually going to commission that particular kitchen. If there are things you know for sure you want like all lower drawers, a super susan, space for wall ovens or MW, etc., be sure to specify those. This will get you in the approximate ball park. Once you have a number, say $25,000, you can make a decision about whether or not this ballpark will work for you. If the answer is "ain't no way that's happening," then you can go ahead with future planning while you wait to save up some money. If the answer is "that's possible," then you can get more serious about what you actually want and where you want to get it. For instance, if the number you get is within reach, but you'd like to see what local kitchen/bath places or local custom shops have to offer, you can go see them and not be afraid of massive sticker shock. If you liked the person/cabinets at HD, you can look more seriously at their options. Depending on where you are on the available cash scale, you could also price out Ikea, Barker, and those other guys - Sch-something (?). Or, if $25,000 is a drop in the bucket, you could go have a look at Poggenpohl and get an entirely different number (!). Having a tentative baseline will make you feel a little more secure. FWIW, we did an InnerMost kitchen approx. 13x13 with a 4x5 island for approx. $14.5K, cabinets only. We did our own install. Granite counters were around $4K....See MoreWhat is the average cost of Kitchen Remodel in Bay Area?
Comments (7)My daughter did a limited remodel of her 10'X10' kitchen in SF: new flooring and new cabinets/sink only. No structural changes, no new appliances, no island. Cost about $35K five years ago. Other bids at the time were up to $65K. With subsequent increases for labor and materials, plus the high demand for competent contractors due to the pandemic, I'd guess she would easily be paying twice that now. For your more complex remodel my WAG is in the $100-150K range for the kitchen alone. But you will only know if you can get some estimates. It's a volatile time and you shouldn't be making decisions based on what strangers on this forum are guesstimating....See MoreWhat's the average cost for kitchen cabinets?
Comments (14)I ordered Lowes diamond cabinets with plywood upgrade, no deep drawers. $4K (with coupon deal) in 2021. 5 base cabinets and 4 uppers. I have not installed them yet (other priorities) but they look fine. (They are in my living room, not the garage.) Plywood is 1/2” thick and very lightweight. I am very careful so I’m not worried. 4 of the carcasses and 1 set of doors came damaged or incorrect (particle board). Once I got the right person on the phone, they replaced them no problem. I did have to wait a very long time for all this to happen. Obviously the wait was not a problem for me. If someone else is designing and installing, the timeframe could be more of an issue because someone has to make sure the order is correct and there are no issues. If I have issues at installation, I am prepared to deal with them myself. I also considered cabinets2go for budgeting reasons. Ikea was not a good option for me, and last time I checked, they did not have a true white cabinet so I never considered them. (They might have a true white now, IDK.) Lowes was a lot closer (I am rural), and the designer was eager to help me out being new to the area. It was one of my first purchases in the new house as the kitchen was broken. The kitchen is still broken but I’m getting by with new appliances and a temporary sink. In my previous home, the cabinets were particle board or mdf, and water and wear made them lumpy. That is why I insisted on plywood carcasses for the new cabinets. The doors have solid wood and are painted. They did a good job with the paint. I think now there are other options for material that have more durability features. Solid wood warps, which is why it is not recommended for carcasses and slab doors. It’s OK for parts of paneled doors....See Morekitchen Island Average Cost
Comments (8)I’d add that the pictured countertop looks thicker than standard, whether due to a built-up mitered edge or to the purchase of extra-thick slab(s). Either way, that adds a lot of cost. And that thicker counter needs sufficient support under the span where the stools are, so add more cost for that. Then you need the expertise of a top-notch fabricator. That counter may be beyond the skills and equipment of the average fabricator so add to your budget for a high-end fabricator who will charge more....See MoreDrB477
