I have an awning that used to be retractable. I bought it locally so I can't tell you the brand. I LOVE it. I've had it for over 13 years ... I took it off my old house BEFORE I put the house on the market, and hid it so it would not be part of the negotiations. It is not retractable anymore since I don't have the solide surface on my new (11years) home to be able to have it retract. So I just set it up in the late Spring, and Roll it up late Fall. I priced these against having someone make me a custom waning, and this was much cheaper .. and look how long it's lasted. I do clean it every year. I know it is the type of retractable awning that was first used on RV's. You can kind of see it in this picture.

Just for closure, we finally decided to go with a fixed awning. It will have glass panels to let light in while blocking precipitation, and be held up by knee braces plus use rain chains to guide runoff so as to reduce visual impact. Our landscape designer came up with this as she's done it on another site. Overall, a compromise, but I think it will work out very well and both wife and I are excited about the solution. I feel your pain about a south-facing deck as I have one,as well. I'm a little confused by the pics--do you have the shed roof bump-out at the deck or are you proposing to build it? If you don't have it, don't build it because it would be much easier to cover the entire deck with the awning, that way. I have a retractable awning over my deck and I just love it. A high quality awning is expensive, but not as expensive as building out a roof or gazebo-style roof. The awning also protects you from the dew during night time hours which is an added advantage. Go to a reputable awning company in your area and you'll be very happy with the product. I have the motor-driven kind, which I would recommend. Don't know where you live, but I live in Ohio and used Ohio Awning & Manufacturing Co. in Cleveland. I wouldn't grill under the awning, but you could always retract the awning to cook, then deploy it afterward to eat under.

A little late to the game, but in case you're still looking... here's an idea: have you looked at adjustable louvered roofs? They might be more expensive than what you're looking for b/c they're more than awnings for sure. BUT they last forever, unlike the awning and are a true investment in your home. They're like a pergola but the louvers adjust via remote control 160 degrees to open for sun or close for shade and rain protection. They're super durable and can be clad to fit design styles. But, like I said, they're a significant jump in price from an awning. BUT they're a lot less than a porch (unless you add all the whistles and bells like screening, heaters, speakers, PVC cladding, lighting, fans, etc...in that case, it might come a bit closer to a porch cost) A basic one for your size deck, w/ a fan, would prob cost you anywhere between $7K-15K depending on size of the Equinox and other variables and such.
