Comments (18)"They made an effort to wish me something" Amen, Sistah! I'm grateful for any & all good wishes! not exactly the same thing, but sort of the same thing: Many years ago, a Dallas City Councilman named Max Goldblatt spoke to the Unitarian Fellowship I attended. He said he grew up in Odessa during the oil boom. The Goldblatts were the only Jewish family in town. His mother dressed him up on Sundays, "in my kneepants & my 'beanie'", & sent him off to the Baptist church. He whined & complained & said that he was different & they were different & they wouldn't teach him about being a Jew & he didn't wanna go. & his mother kissed him on the cheek & sent him out the front door, saying, "They will not teach you anything bad." He said they welcomed him & treated him like any of their own children. don't know what they taught him, but he grew up to be a bright light in Dallas politics for many years. That must have been 25 years ago, & I still remember his message often....See Morewhen has composting gone too far?
Comments (25)You guys are funny! It's true, I started a compost pile in the winter, and suddenly everywhere i looked i saw a possible addition to my pile. Yes, my neighbors think I'm a little crazy, but i think the guy who burns his brush and mows his lawn 3x a week is the crazy one! Doesn't he know that brush could be shredded.... I know they all get a kick out of me digging up earthworms, collecting them when it rains, taking them to the compost bin and putting them in. Oh well....See MoreOld topic but desperate for help w/ Gardenias Pest!!!
Comments (4)Well, I'm sure as heck confused, lol! Let's get some things straight, jamietree. First of all, if you were using a FUNGICIDE, you did nothing to address the problem with the insects. Fungicides are for the treatment of fungus diseases. INSECTICIDES are for insects. The chemical chlorophenoxy is an HERBICIDE....so let's just assume that you are mistaken about that chemical. Herbicides kill plants in various ways. So....what was the chemical that you soaked the plant with? If the garden center gave you a fungicide to get rid of the black sooty mold on your river birch, they did you a disservice. Black sooty mold won't be controlled by a fungicide because it is not a pathogen. Aphids need to be controlled and the black sooty mold will then go away on its own. Insecticidal soap can be helpful (and safe) to use but the spray needs to be directed to the underside of the leaves where the whitefly hangs out, and where the nymphs hide. Spraying over the top won't do much of anything. Super-fine horticultural oils (of which there are many kinds and brands) can be very helpful, too. Again, these must be applied to the underside of the leaves....See MoreControversial Design Trends, lol
Comments (39)I was at TJMaxx/Homegoods yesterday, and that mustache motif was printed on lots of stuff. I think it's vile, and have seen it semi-adopted by teenagers around here, who seem to view it ironically. I wonder if it originated in some anime show or something on-line. When my teenage style expert gets herself out of bed, I will ask, and will post any insights. I've been collecting little bird figurines and bird printed fabrics most of my life. The only impact the trend has had is that it's much easier to find things now, and it looks as if I'm trying to be trendy with my birds all over the place, but I'm not. I also have a sunburst mirror in my living room, which I bought over 20 years ago in an antique store. The problem with them being so ubiquitous now is that the next step is for them to become passe, and I love my mirror. I'm not ever taking it down. I saw a fiddleleaf fern in a blog, and was going to buy one, but not now....See Morecactusmcharris, interior BC Z4/5
