Comments (14)I learned to crochet when I was 10 years old from my mother. She did beautiful crochet items but never knitted and never made sweaters but did trim clothes with crochet. I taught myself to knit when I was in my 30s because I wanted to make sweaters, etc. It took so much time to accomplish anything that I never really finished anything I could be proud of. I took up the threads again last December and I'm almost finished my first sweater jacket. I practiced on scarfs, both knitting and crocheting and agree with posters above. Crocheting is much faster. What takes a couple of evenings or a day in crochet will take at least aweek to knit unless you drop stitches. If someone has some tips in how to speed the process up I would really appreciate a post in that regard. I switched to continental and it goes fairly fast for me now but I think it's still slower than crocheting. I am now finding beautiful garments one can crochet and they are not granny squares! Although at this age I can appreciate both crafts and their beauty. And sense of accomplishment while watching TV....See Moredecorative Crochet, and magic crochet- ordering info?
Comments (9)The company that distributes Magic and Decorative Crochet is Realtime Pub. Services out of Danbury CT. I called today, and they have combined Magic and Dec. Crochet into "Crochet Monthly", and they will honor your subscriptions until they run out and they are not taking any more orders for subscriptions. I asked how come I haven't rec'd any magazine since Oct, and the lady said they would be coming out sometime this month. (Seems like Crochet Monthly is only coming out quarterly.) That's all I could get out of their customer service dept. So I really don't know if Crochet Monthly is going to be a dependable magazine or not. Here's the phone # I have for them in case anyone wants to check on their own subscriptions 203-792-4700....See MoreKnitter Knockers for the Yarnies out there! (And Crocheter’s too!)
Comments (14)I found the cotton yarn I needed online. Now that it has arrived, I am knitting their pattern. I am on my 3rd one. I will mail them off when I have knit the whole skein since they want the yarn label to arrive with the knockers. They stuff them, which is great as I am not that good at even stuffing. It is a little fiddly the first 3 rows using dpns, but then it is a no brainer. I have learned not to use stitch markers for the first 3 rows, and that helps. Then I use only one marker to indicate the beginning of the row. My problem is that I will get lost in a TV show and forget to do the increase and have to back track....See Moreeld6161
