Columnea growth rate, morning sun?
Comments (29)Purple..What's the temp there? I do everything the last minute, too..dh teases, 'you procastinate no matter how early you wake.' lol. I honestly believe GW has a lot to do with putting things off. I might not fool a jury, but dh might buy the story. Purple, Purple, Purple. Who's Purple. What's Purple. Why is it Purple's fault? Do you like AV's? When I saw this guy, I had to order. It's called, Jolly Jubilee. If you have time, Google or check Violet Barn. The only other AV I want is Happy Harold...Of course it was out of stock. In the first pic, your Columnea leaves look glossy. In the next photo, foliage looks fuzzy. My eyesight is getting worse, so it's hard to be certain. Which is it..glossy or fuzzy? Will you summer your Col outdoors then bring inside during winter? If you bring indoors, will your Col be placed in shade, bright light or direct sun? Purple, how long will you be in NO's? Do you have someone to water plants while you're gone?...See MoreLow success rate re:seed germination indoors
Comments (34)The little non-climbing convolvulous minor (such as Royal Ensign) can be sown much earlier....but the climbing Heavenly Blue morning glory really will be OK if you hold fire till the nights are absolutely frost-free (which, in Yorkshire, can be as late as the end of May). The suggested sowing times on seed packets often assume you are using heated germination aids and extra lighting. I have 2 main sowing periods for annuals, including veggies (apart from the perennials which are sown all over the place). March, for the hardy types (cornflowers, poppies, sweet peas (although I do a lot of these hardy things directly into the soil in autumn)agrostemma, calendula) and May for French beans, zinnia, cosmos, tagetes, dimorpotheca. ursinia. I start my tomatoes between 15th March and 1st April. I will use a cold-frame for some things (such as the dahlia tubers) but in general, I wait for annuals till the weather is good because they catch up easily.....and I hate that hardening off, bringing them in, taking them out, moving around stuff....See More1st hr rating=deceptive - Tricky hot water heater sizing problem
Comments (14)drtechno, How cold is the water at the coldest part of the year? If it is 35-40 degrees (I've seen mine get near 32) then a 70 degree rise would bring it to 105-110...not 120 On a tankless, you assume a shower temp of 105 as if the tankless was outputting 105 degree water and forget about mixing. So, a 200k btu/h tankless could heat ~5 gpm from 40 - 110 degrees (which would give you a little extra for heat loss in the pipes and the option to run more than 105 if you like hotter showers) which is enough to run two standard showers, but not your 7 gpm master shower... and certainly not all three. The reason that you don't worry about mixing ratios on a tankless is because you aren't storing any water. On a tank system, it makes sense to store 40 gal of 140 degree water and mix it down to 105. There's no benefit to doing this on a tankless. Some of them even have bathroom controls so you can set your shower all the way to HOT and then set the water heater to output the exact temp you want. In practice, you generally set a tankless to 120 or so for the dishwasher and washing machine - but it doesn't change the capacity of the heater. You are running less water through the heater, but it's at a higher temp rise so the math is the same....See MoreThank doG and ANYONE for dog grooming equipment
Comments (1)Yikes! Quick thinking saved the day at your house :) Maybe I should get me one of those dryers...not that my dog would EVER let me near her with it, but it may come in handy in an emergency!...See More- 9 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
