How do I avoid sawdust, doing baseboard in a finished room?
Comments (11)I ran baseboard for years as Casey described... measure your cuts, make a list, go to remote cutting area, go back and nail. We also used to use this same method on a two man production team, one guy "nailer" makes list for room or next few sections, hands list to "cutter", cutter brings back and scatters ahead of nailer.. repeat/repeat/repeat to do a complete house. Same method works equally well for casing and crown molding. On new construction as well as major remodels we would typically have a "shop" set up in a garage or large room for all cutting and sawdust, this way painters as well as other trades can continue working......See MoreWood floors without baseboards?
Comments (3)Wood, vinyl, etc will all need expansion gaps. Even glue down product has expansion requirements (although MUCH less than floating). I've seen the sleek/modern 'no baseboards' look. It normally starts out with drywall that is hung higher and properly FINISHED (reinforced). The flooring is then allowed to run UNDERNEATH the drywall. Or there is tile. Or there is glue down cork flooring. But each will require a bit of expansion at all walls. Tile and cork can be caulked at the edges....but the expansion gap still must be allowed. Have a close, hard look at the tiles that are already in place. How are they finished at the walls? How much space has been left? Is it the width of a grout line? Are the current grout lines quite wide (1/4" or wider?)? It is entirely possible to get a finished concrete floor in there OR linoleum (Marmoleum) to keep the MCM features going. Engineered hardwood or vinyl plank will be difficult even with glue down....See MoreHow to shine my matte finish laminate floors without a wax build up?
Comments (11)To get a shiny floor you have to PURCHASE shiny floor. Sorry but that's the way of it. You already admit you are over cleaning it just to make it look nicer. So you might as well go whole hog and add a temporary polish. Things like Rejuvenate or a polymere additive that is OK for vinyl/laminate is the way to go. The way you do this without wax build-up is: Strip the floor every time you want to add more shine. Yep. You guessed it. You will chemically/manually strip the polish off every 3-6 months and then add more once the floor is dry. This is the single possible way to add shine without adding layers of polish residue. Once you have lived with your 'polish', 'strip', 'polish', 'strip program for a year or two (should be 3-4 polish-strip-polish actions) you can then start saving for a floor that has a gloss level you can live with. Sorry but this is the only way to get a shiny floor - purchase a new floor that has a shine to it....See MoreHow do we go lighter on red oak floors without looking pink/red?
