We’re on
again this year! It’s our 6th
Annual New England Plant Swap at Adams Farm, 999 North Street in Walpole, MA on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from
9 am to 11 am.

Once again,
gardeners from around New England will be cleaning up their yards, dividing
their perennials and houseplants, and sharing their excess seedlings ,annuals, tools,
garden-art and books. You’re welcome to take home with you plants, tools and
books of equal value to what you brought.

So pot up
your successes and leftovers and join us at the red barn at Adams Farm for a
morning of fun, stories and general garden nirvana. The barn is covered; so it goes on rain or
shine. There’s plenty of free parking. The event is open to all and is there is no
charge. Even the coffee is free and your
leashed dogs are welcome.

I hope that this is the year I'm able to make an inaugural appearance. Every year prior I've had to work (ironically, digging up and replanting my clients' gardens).

Hi Wispfox! This year, setup will be at 9:00 and we'll start the swapping at 9:30 sharp. The biggest and best go first, which is why we limit how much people an take in the first couple of swap rounds. The plants I got from you last year THRIVED!!!!!! Any more oak leaf hydrangea? Whee! That was so much fun! Thanks for hosting and organizing. :) Next year, I'll do better at labeling the things I know, and will definitely make sure to get there earlier enough to unload _before_ everyone is allowed to start picking things. It might also make sense to figure out some way to, say, limit people to 5 things in the first half hour or something, just so everything of one sort doesn't immediately vanish.

I want to come to one of these, but sadly I have no clue how to divide and store properly to share..and honestly idk if I'd have anything that I could actually share? And if I did, I doubt anyone would want :/

Nessdizzle, I divide up plants as soon as the ground gets warm. Usually I dig up things that have spread (say daylilies or grasses) and divide them or I dig up things that send out babies (chrysanthemum, etc.).

I pot these up in good compost that I get free from our town mixed with my garden soil. I save pots from year-to-year from plants I purchased and plant the "babies" in pots large enough for them to send out roots. Then I put these in a semi-shaded area so that they can develop a good root system and not suffer initial wind or sun burn.

However, I have received plants from our CT swaps that were pulled out of the ground that morning and brought in plastic bags, and these survived. You'd be surprised how the free plants you bring might just appeal to someone who has a space that needs to be filled!

Many times people who haven't even brought plants to our swap end up going home with something. In our CT swaps, "leftover" plants are taken by members to plant in town gardens or public spaces.
