Book Title Needed

last modified: 8 years ago

I've been feeding birds and providing housing for them for about 30 years and sometimes feel inclined to read books on them, although other projects usually keep me from doing that very often. Some years back I happened on a book at the library and would like to read it again but have no idea what the title of the book was. I remember that it was written by a man who lived with his wife in the Philadelphia area in maybe the 1930's or 1940's (I'm guessing here). He was an avid bird watcher and would go to a wooded spot in his area and would especially enjoy watching migrating warblers. He lamented the fact that this tract of land kept getting smaller and smaller with each passing year due to, of course, the increase in human population and the cutting down of trees to build more houses. I remember he said something to the effect that instead of cutting down more trees for more houses for more people, he wished that less trees would be cut down for less houses for less people. He and his wife did the responsible thing and didn't have children because they didn't want to add to the world overpopulation problem. The man was really insightful and I wish I could remember his name and the book title. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could let me know this information. TIA!
