avoid directgardening.com like the plague!
Comments (22)There are several mail order companies served by that same nursery. Some are Direct Gardening, Exciting Gardens, 4SeasonNurseries and Farmer Seed & Nursery. They all have the same crappy customer service insisting that you send back your receipt and write a letter to get a refund or replacement. And then in many cases the plants they send you are not true to name. I have to admit, even knowing all that, it was difficult for me to skip buying my climbing roses from them for $5.99 each and instead to buy them from the better nurseries like High Country/Heirloom/Roses Unlimited/Sooner for over $20 more each. I've sworn off all those nurseries that are supplied from the same place as Direct Gardening because of (1) horrible customer service (2) horrible product quality, often the bare roots they sell RRV, RMV and are rejects (or you can call them "seconds") (3) no guarantee that what you will receive is actually what you ordered. The best example I have on item (3) is, last year I purchased 3 ground cover roses from them that all turned out to be New Dawns!...See MoreGrain prices up only good thing from drought
Comments (7)Cow prices are headed the other way though. Those folks will get a double whammy. Of course, that sets up for high cattle prices in early 2004, and if the grains are cheap then, the combination of cheap feed and high beef prices will bail out any who don't go under in the meantime. Other goods things from the drought. Grapes, stone fruits had little brown rot. Fungicide bills are down for the local orchards. Another benefit of the drought, if you got the weeds out early, the fields are still pretty clean....See Morescam/fraud alert! avoid directgardening & all affiliate s!!
Comments (0)This is NOT a nursery! They are a Web Design company that takes Your money & Eventually sends you Garbage.( Read ALL the Complaints!) I placed order, was excited to find scrubs I needed, got an email confirmation #. I was told that money is not taken Until order is ready to ship. LIE! I was told they are a Nursery. LIE! I called to check status of order, gave them Their Order # only to be told that that number meant Nothing & that they go by my Zip Code. WTH? More time was spent explaining DORMANT Plants to be, I'M AN AVID GARDENER! I called a few times, got the Run Around, Did Research on this Company & BAAM! NOT GOOD!! Direct gardening.com is Also House of Wesley, Inter State Nursery, Kelly's Nursery, Burgess Seed and Several Other names. ALL of them are set up & Owed by a Web Design Co. that when you click on the ABOUT US button, you find Nothing more then Legal Crap that says Everything you do on Their site, any info, photos etc. Are THEIR property. NOTHING about Gardening, Nurseries or anything related! I made contact requesting my money & got several emails stating that I can't get my money Because my order MAY have shipped but they have NO way of knowing. Again, WTH?? DON'T LET THEIR WEB PAGES FOOL YOU!!! Read the MANY Complaints dating back YEARS and AVOID being RIPPED OFF by this Bogus Group of resellers!! I have read that much of what they do send, when they send, IS Dead, but I can't say because I'm OUT $$ & have Received NOTTHING! I am Shocked that this PYRAMID SCAM has not been shut down by the attorney General, Feds, Postal Fraud Police or Somebody! Oh, by the way, They have a place on Their Web Site that Offers Anybody to set up Web Site, Selling Crap & You too can get a Percent of Any Sales made From your Nursery Web Page that THEY will put up for you.( At s Cost I'm Sure!) BUYER BEWARE, DO YOUR RESEARCH, Try Spring hill Nursery, Michigan Bulb, Jackson Perkins... ETC. ETC. Don't Be Fooled by Prices TOO Good To Be True!! Your Wallet WILL Thank You as will your Garden!! If you choose to ignore ALL the Complaints REMEMBER, YOU WERE WARNED!! Happy Gardening to ALL...See MoreBuying House 1 hour from city where I work - is that a good idea ?
Comments (32)There are a lot of factors that can play into whether or not it is a good idea and those factors can change over time. Right now, the commute is only an hour. If the area grows/increases in population, that amount of time could increase a little or a lot. How one feels also depends on if that hour is spent actually driving or just sitting in traffic most of the time. My DH does commute. We have a home on acreage that we enjoy and it is in a good location between 2 cities that have government work (which is who his employer is). A house like ours closer to Santa Fe would be double the price (on a city lot), perhaps triple with acreage. I work at home so I am close to the kids needs for school and socializing. I think it is important to have one parent close to the kids. There are times when the commute does get to him but when he hand the opportunity to apply for a job with a pay raise and shorter commute, he chose not to. There are downsides. He cannot invite his co-workers over for dinner and if we are invited to something, it takes a considerable amount of time. We could sell and buy something closer, but that would be a major disruption to the kids and our life outside of work is here. When the kids move out, he will only be about 4 years away from retirement so our lives will have changed again. If you do buy a house that far out, like most house purchases, it is best to have enough equity in it that if you decide to sell, for whatever reason (in this case shortening your commute), you can afford to do so....See MoreUser
