OT: 4 bedrooms, or 3 bedrooms + rec room?
Comments (48)Gardenwebber, that is SUCH a good point about "entertaining in their rooms". Here's a thought about your floorplan: have the kids take the back two bedrooms. Move your son to the smaller bedroom, the girls in the room with the closet. Take that wall that you guys put up and turn it into the bunk beds in separate rooms. This will give you a lot more useable floor space. Swing your youngest daughter's bed against the far wall and you will maximize the floor space there. Your son can have the lower bunk bed in his own room next door. That leaves the bedroom directly across from yours as a playroom. That also makes your own bedroom further away from the kids beds. The bunk beds are just drywalled with the mattress only on them. We have always had a rule that our kids cannot have a computer, video games or tv in their bedroom until they are 18. I do not want that stuff cluttering my downstairs living room. An upstairs space for this is the best solution. We built our current home knowing that we were going to have teens in them someday and to give them space separate from ours. Think about this solution. My husband would be happy to talk you and your husband thru the details if it is something you would be interested in. P.S. my 17y.o.'s boyfriend is coming for christmas for 17 days and there is no way in hell that she will be "entertaining" him in her bedroom!!!!!!!!!!!! Comments (3)It's a pretty easy conversion: take the bed and dresser and stuff out and put in a TV and a couch. However, if you don't already have an ugly spiderweb of coax cables on the outside of your house consisting of three cable providers worth of cabling for at least one TV per room like we do (thanks previous owners), you might have to call your cable company to run a new cable hookup....See MoreIs There a TV in Your Bedroom?
Comments (90)Kswl that is the perfect size TV for me. That's one huge disagreement between hubs and me. He says tv's of a certain size aren't even worth watching. I had a tiny one when we first met. Never bothered me. Had a small one in the bedroom, good enough for me. Hubs claims he can't see the tv images well when they are small, but I have terrible vision and I can see the tv just fine. I guess I just don't put much stock in the images on the screen and their quality. I prefer real life for that kind of thing . . . Hubs is gone visiting family and I totally don't miss the big screen monster being on all the time. I have been aware that it is intrusive but now more than ever. It was wanting to get away from the monster that led me to the smaller set in the bedroom in the first place. Both hubs and I are boomers, so I know darn well that life went on for our parent's generation and grandparents without these huge TV images and they never complained about not being able to see . . . hear on the other hand . . . but that had a remedy. I can't stand the loud tv noise either . . ....See MoreLooking for paint color for re-do of bedroom to bedroom/workout room
Comments (0)Hi, Looking for help identifying a paint color for my daughter's old bedroom as we transition it to a guest bedroom/workout room. The attached photos show what color the walls are today, which are pretty similar to the rest of the house. Sort of a light beige. I was hoping to try something different - but not so different that the room looks like it's from a different house :-) The bed and the lamp is the only furniture that has to stay, the rest is on it's way out. Planning to get an exercise bike, tv and have yoga mat (in photo). Also want to replace the window coverings and hope to find someone that can refinish the hardwood floors underneath the carpet. Also, are feature walls still a thing? Thanks for any ideas!...See MoreUser
