Chalkware snowman?

I love this snowman I've acquired. The dealer said he's chalkware, but this guy is heavy. He's about 17" inches tall. Someone else suggested it might be concrete, but I can't figure it out. Any hints? Ideas?



I wonder if he could've been a store display, and maybe he held a sign in that slotted hand.

    Chalk and plaster are pretty well different terms for the same thing...and cement? Concrete?...plaster of paris with some special hardener?? Who knows...and who cares. He's wonderful!!! Treat him gently, he's a gem!!
    My guess would be 1920's or before.
