Help with color of stained cabinets to match chestnut trim
Comments (1)My initial reaction would be not to try to match the stain, because it will not be easy to do. I would go lighter or darker, but something that blends nicely. Or a painted cabinet with a darker glaze to tie into the trim. Do you have pictures of the existing woodwork?...See Morecabinet to match maple kitchen cabinets stained cherry
Comments (1)Think paint. Go to the Finished Kitchens Blog and start looking at painted cabs. I am loving the current trend toward grays and putty colors. YMMV. Comments (2)I have pretty much what you're talking about in my kitchen (Mine are Omega because they're different than normal debths and stuff, but still, they're cherry with an Autumn stain) omega and dynasty often swap doors out. The first cabs I received were natural cherry. (THey've since been returned to the bad retailer). Those cabinets were mostly the same color as the Omega cabs, but they had huge areas which were quite a bit lighter as well. So when I ordered the Omega, I was told about the autumn stain and took it with some hesitation since I didn't want to lose the "cherry" under a stain in this room. I am happy to say that they look natural with the autumn stain, with only one difference, and that is there isn't the same level of variation in wood color that I saw with my original cherry only doors. They're frankly much prettier. THey do however continue to change color. Mine have been up for a few months and already the spots where we had the tape to open the drawers are lighter than the rest of the door. A filler strip added yesterday looks so much lighter, but in a week or two in my sunny kitchen that will change to match the rest :) I love how it mellowed out the cherry :) That's a perfect way to describe what the autumn stain does. We're still under construction...but here are a few pics: This one has too much flash on it, but just to show color variation on a door I thought I'd include it. But do remember, these doors are as dark as the rest of the cabs behind them when the flash isn't screaming in their face :o) Better color shot:...See MoreAnyone successfully match old and new cherry cabinets?
Comments (11)We had new drawer and doors put on older frames (about 15 years old). They had a natural finish and we kept the cab over the stove and open shelves surrounding the stove. We also kept the paneled fridge. They were installed in February and darkened quite a bit the first month, but they were still considerably lighter than the original cabs. When summer arrived, we removed the doors and drawers and gave them a suntan. They darkened more after 3 days in the sun. A couple of drawers are still a little light, but no one else would ever notice. ( probably due to the wood itself) From what I've been told is that if your wood has a stain, there is less darkening and as long as your stain is the same, you may have better results. I would do it again....See Moreklem1
