Valentine questions
Comments (21)I find my house looks empty this time of year, I was hoping for some inspiration so I came to this forum. DH and I took down the Christmas tree shortly after Christmas because we headed to Puerto Vallarta for a month. Then came home to an empty house and a full work schedule! I love Valentines Day. My mom always gave us a Valentine at breakfast when we were kids and would also leave a small heart shaped box of candy under our pillow that we would find after school. It was also her mother's birthday. Almost twenty years ago her husband (my stepfather) committed suicide while she was in the house on Valentine's Day. I don't think the timing was intentional, but I'm sure she remembers that, as I do when the holiday rolls around. Because of that I always make sure I make a fuss over her. When she wintered out of state for a few years after his passing I would make sure to send flowers and had my kids making homemade Valentines and get them in the mail so she would receive them on V-Day or the day before. Now she's only about 5 miles from me (and doing very well!) It is also my anniversary. I hate it when people talk about how much they HATE Valentine's Day. I agree with oldalgebra...do as much or as little as you want to! But don't HATE it! So here's looking for a little inspiration. You gals have been great. I never used to decorate beyone Christmas and you all got me into fall and looking forward to the next Holiday so that the house seems empty in between. I am looking forward to seeing Karen's inspriation album....See MoreValentine stuff Part 2
Comments (10)Luvs, the big bunny in bay window that's like yours was a find at Brass Armadillo last year or year before. And if my decorating can motivate you, that is wonderful. Heaven knows "it took a village" (here) to get me going this time! Creek, I have so many big bunnies that are out all year, except for Christmas, I figured I may as well start decorating them for the other holidays. I'm way over the top with my collectibles. The statues of bunnies, horses, and of course Whippets/Greyhounds, are all over the house. Don't laugh, but most of the family photos on my little round table are in Arthur Court Rabbit frames! (You can use the zoom feature on Photobucket to see them close-up.) When I got that little table, it seemed a perfect place to combine my family pix and my bunny frames at the same time. I usually move the photos when decorating for holidays but this time just added Val. touches. There was SO much I DIDN'T do this year. Like the family-room mantel, the built-in bookshelves by it, the entry way sideboard, my bathroom. But I am happy with what I did get done, and just having the kitchen/bay window area looking colorful is good for me. Thanks Gang, for all the sweet comments and kudos. Makes me feel so good. hugs, Karen I think the big crystal heart was a Michaels find two years ago. I love it, and the way it sparkles in the chandy light or the sunlight coming thru bay window is soooo pretty. Punk, it was certainly about time Teegan got a pretty lace "tablecloth" huh? I had forgotten I had two lace placemats in a cabinet I bought quite awhile back for decorating with....See MoreMy Lighted Christmas Arrangements
Comments (20)Thanks Garden Girl. I was getting a little down over that. After all I was making them for gifts and sure didn't want to hand out something fire hazzard. Val, They are very simple to make. I have bought my trees from Big Lots. For the larger one they are $2.99, Medium, $1.99 and small one is $.99. I use on the larger tree "35" light set and on the small one I use "20" light set. I just decorate the tree with torn homespum ribbon, berries, small pinecones, and some rusty bells. I have been buying my snowmen mostly from JoAnn's. They are 60% off now. You could use all kinds of containers. Like old crates, enamel bowls, crocks. I have run out of containers so I'm using some cupboard door fronts. I just paint them then I glue on my tree and snowmen. I then will embellish the door with some green garland, cones, berries, or what ever I can find. On the crates I filled the bottom up with poly fill for snow. Then I spray the arrangement with some snow. If you get some made please share with us....See MoreFall swap..............?
