OMG puppy cuteness warning! He's so adorable.

This lady takes shelter dogs and adopts them out. The people pay an adoption fee of $232 and air fare. Most go up north and the west coast where people are more conscientious about neutering their pets. I knew he would have a great home and more attention than I could give him. The new families send updates and Lee passes them on to me. The smallest one went to Boston, and the lady who got her took a week off of work to spend with her and sent pics of the pup sleeping in her bed. I called that one Lily but I can't remember now what she calls her. I'm happy they are so loved. Another family on Long Island took 2 of them. I can't remember where the 7th one went.

I am on the hunt for a Chorkie- Chihuahua/ Yorkie Puppy I can only find them on online sites..NO WAY and NO WA Y to any puppy mill. I know these pups need homes also but most come with a lifelong price tag that I just can't knowingly walk into.

Marilyn, I'm glad your getting some help, God knows you deserve it with all you do.

Check out Southern Comforts Rescue on Facebook. This lady has a lot of small dogs/puppies. She gets them from shelters.... doesn't breed any dogs. Her partner handles the large breeds of dogs. Southern Comforts with an s. In Hitchcock, Texas.

Look at the "hopeless" cases she takes in. What little I can do pales in comparison to what she does. She truly is an inspiration.

cared for 3 orphaned bunnies a neighbor brought over. Weeks later, when I
turned them over to the Wildlife Rescue I felt horrible.

I keep saying some day I want a dog....your an AMAZING person to take in so many Marilyn.

Summer, two years ago, I raised 7 orphan pups. The vet sent them to me...actually another woman was supposed to raise half of them but a couple days in, she came to me for help with hers and never came back to get them. I only gave one away... to the vet tech's mother. I ended up keeping the others. I wish I had known Southern Comforts then, because she could have placed them. When I bottle raise an animal, I am beyond picky who gets them. Almost all of "my" cats (not the ferals) were bottle raised by me. I won't give them up. Of all the animals I have raised, the bottle raised kittens are my favorite. I am more of a cat person. I like dogs and I'd do well with one little lap dog, but living in the boondocks in a rather secluded place on a bayou, and alone most of the time, even tho my dogs don't bite....no one is going to sneak up on me. Meth use is rampant out here. I have to be aware that the method addict down the road knows I am here alone....and he also knows I will shoot his @$$ if I have to.

That puppy is beyond adorable. That's why I don't foster any more. Raising cats from kittenhood and then handing them off always made me sad. So no more fostering. Little did I know ,my dog and I would find a purebred Maine Coon cat just hanging out in the alley a mile from me. So.....for the last four months he's living like a king here in my house with all the others.

Marilyn - Even without having a lot of other animals, caring
for orphans is very labor intensive. With the bunnies I had to feed them rabbit
poo & stroke them to simulate their mama. My other experience was a raccoon
a friend brought me as it’s mother was killed at their cottage. It sure didn’t
look like anything I had ever seen before. She was very demanding for her
feedings. I love, love, love cats,
second only to breathing, but the one I bottle fed has that slight edge for me.

I really admire fosters. We have thought often about fostering a dog (we have six cats, it's a long story). But then my husband says we better be careful because we both know we would foster exactly ONE dog, who would never leave.

Summer, I commend you...baby rabbits aren't the easiest babies to raise. I raise baby possums. They have to be tube fed. A few years ago, my dog raised a baby raccoon. I started letting the coon nurse her because she didn't like the bottle but after nursing the dog a little bit, she would take the bottle. Then the dog started producing milk and raised the raccoon. A couple of weeks later, the meth addict stole the dog and dumped her out. It was a miracle I found her. I posted it on FB and asked my friends to share it and someone found her and I got her back. I posted it as one of my Bayou Tails, if you want to read it. I will set it to public.

That raccoon lived with us for 2 years. I thought we would never get rid of her. She was the dog's raccoon. I couldn't do anything with her. She is still here... Comes around every night.

I'm amazed at not only all you do for the animals, but the fact that you've been typing on your phone!! That IS tedious. You can see you have a big fan club in us and we voraciously read every word. I don't say that to flatter you, but to let you know you are much appreciated. I would be so scared to have that addict living down the road, knowing he stole your dog once and knowing how crazy those people get; as anti-gun as I am, I can see you need one for protection. Why did he do that, and then dump her somewhere? (I'm making you phone-type again by asking questions!) Also, how is the little kitty who got stuck in your truck? It will be lovely to read your link.

sjerin, he is just mean. He is one of the two guys who stole my pet pig, Piggy Sue. He also almost shot me twice....not on purpose but was shooting in the wooded area next to my house. The bullets zinged past my head. The first time, I didn't press charges. I did call out the sheriff deputy. The second time...a couple of years later, I did. His mother flew into a rage. She called me a liar....said I made it up. Believe me, I didn't. That is his main problem....raised by someone who never made him be a responsible adult. She actually paid someone to take him to Austin and put him out and told him not to come back. Of course, he called a friend to come get him and probably beat them home. She bought him a new truck....tried to get him to get a job and make the payments. He went to Houston, got drunk and tried to cross a railroad track, and something happened....I think the cross arm came down and hit the truck, and he bailed out and a train hit it.

I found the dog running up and down on the highway about a mile from here. I thought she had been dumped out. I didn't pick her up the first day, but the second day I saw her, I did. I thought she was a boxer....she is probably half pit bull. I took her to the humane society and had her scanned for a chip. I could have left her there but they had so many dogs, I knew she would be put down, so I brought her home. Later I found out it was his dog originally. He was given her and she had puppies, and his mother didn't want them, so they killed the pups and threw them in the bayou. She killed a neighbor's chicken, so he gave her to his best friend who lives about a half mile from him and he was going to make a hog dog out of her. He didn't feed her and I guess she didn't do her job or something. She ended up on the highway. I kept her in the house and on a leash when I walked her outside but if she got loose, she would run right back to his house because she liked to play with his other dog. So, I think he thought it would be fun to take her off and dump her. She was found about 10 miles away....across the bayou. There are only 3 places to cross the bayou and she was not near a crossing. Some lady found her in the middle of the road and stopped and got her. That's a miracle, I think. Okay, going to do the links now. Now I remember that hideous story. You sure are one tough cookie, Marilyn. I'd be scared to death. I'm so glad she ended up with you.
