bulb shopping this afternoon & movie on TV tonight re: colleague
Comments (7)After having been in clinical research for 25 years, I thought the movie was pretty well done and did a good job of educating what it's really like. Of course, as I sat on the couch (friend who monitors research studies was sitting across the room) I'd "erupt" with a "THEY'D NEVER DO THAT!!" every now and then....where' the technical advisor, etc! I cried over the chairs that gradually sat empty in the infusion room as some women succumbed to their cancers, I hooted and rooted for women to get treatment. I was shocked by the cold demeanor of some of the doctors (even though I know THEY are out there) and I clapped over the small victories. (This is how I really am too!). Being in research you can be a "people person" and you really care about all of the patients that you interact with, for without them, your work means nothing, or you can be cold and block it out (not me!). Then...there are the rare UBERJERKS (Karl Reinhardt was portrayed as one in the movie and I hope that he's fiction because he's going to get some nasty letters!!) that are cold, harsh, and uncaring. Maybe in cancer research it's a coping mechanism because it's really only been the last 10 years that we've made huge strides in treatmen, and women who show up with advanced cancer do have options that didn't exist prior to 1998. The drugs that were represented in the movie last night (monoclonal antibodies) really are A MIRACLE....I thought the movie was worth viewing. I THINK IT MIGHT BE ON AGAIN TONIGHT...an hour earlier! :-) HAVE A GREAT SUNDAY!! Comments (5)The asparagus was my main concern cause I put more time into those than the rest. So Im glad they'll be ok. What about strawberry plants? Can they handle a freeze? There's no fruit or blooms on them yet. I just watched the news and its suppose to be a low of 26 tonight and up to 10 hours of below 32 degrees. Im crossing my fingers. May send the wife out to buy some tarps as I'm still at work....See MoreTonight: two classic movies about food
Comments (6)I just watched Babette's Feast last night, due to the recommendations on this forum. Wow. It's way more than a food movie. It's very deep. It'll have me thinking about it for a long time. I just read some of the history that surrounded it, which explained much about what was going on. Thanks for the recommendation, (even if I was a little slow to act on it.) Comments (13)We had chicken cacciatore last night, and I cooked six chicken thighs, thinking that two thighs would the the serving for one person. That was wrong, and so we'll be having that again tonight. I put lots of vegetables in it (celery, onion, red bell pepper, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc.), and so it doesn't need side dishes, although I did serve it with rice. So tonight we have either rice or pasta with the leftover chicken. The last two thighs will be someone's lunch. I do plan to add stuffed green olives to it before I heat it up.
