Oemleria cerasiformis (indian plum, oso berry)

A healthy packet of seeds of this upright shrub appeared in my Hardy Plant Soc. seed trove this week...and I have a horrible feeling that, while it obviously ticks all the boxes for a suckering thicket, fruiting bird shelter in my wood (to partner the rubus and ribes), it has never been on my radar because of soil issues. Although my soil is surprisingly alkaline (water filters through calcareous bedrock in the Yare river valley), I can manage quite a few shrubs which are not total lime haters...arbutus for example, is doing OK and even the little Cornish Snow camellia has not gone completely chlorotic...but this is a bit of an unknown so I am not too inclined to invest the time and effort of rearing from seed if it is going to sulk and fret. Anyone here growing oemleria cerasiformis?
