Comments (5)According to a research review on the origin of San Marzano around 1960, there is no real one San Marzano variety. No one source can truly claim they have "the San Marzano". At it's origin, San Marzano was a "type", never a single variety, that was grown in Italy. Plants and fruit varied. Seeds of these different types were widely distributed from different sources in Italy throughout Europe, the US and South America and by 1960 there existed many different ones based on regional preferences. So many different lines are called 'San Marzano'. Those claiming they have the original are probably doing so for marketing purposes or to somehow claim it is theirs. So if it's something you like go ahead and save it. If it wasn't a hybrid and didn't cross it should come back to that type....See Moresan marzano and tomato questions
Comments (1)Uhhh, yeah some reading here will serve you well. Lots of great detailed 'how to grow tomatoes in containers' discussions here. For starters, your container is far too small for most any tomato plant but especially for the variety you are growing. Then read about Blossom Drop as in your location it is probably too hot and/or too humid for blooms to set fruit right now so you get lots of blossom drop, potting soil doesn't work well in containers, you need a soil-less potting mix, and all plants in containers need regular weekly feeding of a balanced fertilizer. Comments (3)going to grow them in less intense (later in the day) direct sunlight for probably only 4-7 hours of direct mid-day to late-day direct sun. can someone let me know how they might do in those light conditions? Not nearly as well. Tomatoes, regardless of the variety, require 6-8 hours of direct sunlight for best results. Less hours and/or less intensity results in lanky/leggy plants with reduced production and more inclination toward disease and pest problems. Dave...See More- 7 years ago
