Recessed, shallow pantry situation - how would you handle this?
Comments (8)Thanks scrappy25. We can purchase the cabinet doors / skins and have the carpenter make the insides. However, in this option, it is still 1K more than using the sliding doors. Also, DH brought up a point last night after looking at the cabinet images from the KDâ¦since we cannot go to the ceiling with the pantry (due to header on that wall), the top of the pantry cabinet will be shorter than the rest of the cabinets in the space. So, he was also concerned that by using the same cabinet doors, it might look "odd". Maybe we can get the cost down by using a different door style / wood / finish for that area (possibly matching the island)....See Morerecessed oak strip handle along top of melamine cabinet doors = ?
Comments (4)The originator of the recessed metal strip handle still makes those cabinets. (Siematic). I don't know who came up with the oak strip, but it is still machined, I've seen it somewhere like Rockler or Outwater, and Outwater has the extruded aluminum strip. However I think the time is ripe for a new shape and species. It might look really nice in walnut. What if the doors were made of Corian, the successor to laminate? I've seen entire contructs (The inner "core" of a loft for example) of Corian although I don't know how its done really. This place will cut their edge pulls to any length but they would be pricey Here is a link that might be useful: Master Metal Works...See MoreWhat pull's do you have on your pantry cabinet?
Comments (6)I don't know what finish hardware you are doing, but your choices sound very classic. What color cabinetry are you doing? Sounds to me like you would be most comfortable with a vertically mounted pull. Is this correct? Check out the link below, specifically the Karen Bale kitchen that uses strap hinges as accent pieces on the barn door cabinetry. Would you consider an accent piece--along the lines of Loves2cook's kitchen but keeping with your style? I am not sure of all the elements in your kitchen, but how about an iron forged grip--bold yet traditional: iron grip Here is a link that might be useful: karen bale kitchen...See MorePantry cabinets: pull-out drawers or shelves?
Comments (31)You can create this look by installing a 15" 3 drawer base on the bottom and then a 15" deep upper cabinet that is tall (depends on the height of your cabinetry) that sits right on top. We are planning something like this (see computer rendering). Someone on Houzz in an old thread suggested you can add a nice detail by installing in a thick horizontal board over the lowers with a nice edge detail and the uppers sit on top. It is a timeless look, IMO...See Moresmm5525
