When making new folders for bookmarks in FF

many want to be inside another folder. Have no need for that, want all folders to be out and visible to use. Anyone got clues as to how to stop this? I am tearing my hair right now. Thanks to anyone.

FF version 50.1.0.

There is more than one way to do this.

I can access my bookmarks list via Bookmarks on the menu bar, position the mouse where I want a new folder to be placed, right-click and select New Folder.

Then right-click on the tab for the page I'm viewing, select Bookmark This Tab. A dialog for Edit This Bookmark appears. Select the picklist for the Folder, then click Choose. The dialog changes to select the desired folder into which the new bookmark is placed. A function is also there for New Folder.

Any bookmark or folder in the Bookmarks list can be moved via drag/drop to a different position in the list. A bookmark in an existing folder can be dragged/dropped to a different existing folder.

It's all about terminology in FF, Shaddy. You want to create a new "Bookmark"...not a new "Folder". Click on Bookmark Tools and then click on "New Bookmark". Fill in the name. Nothing else is needed. Then click OK [or whatever it says there] and your new Bookmark will appear. You can drag it down the list to wherever you want it to appear.

I still don't get it, I want to make a new folder to hold bookmarks, and can't find anything you are speaking of about Bookmark Tools, is this in a newer version?

I am not getting these follow-up posts emailed to me even though i checked to have emails sent - so I didn't know there was more. I hope they keep supporting version 3 - since we have 5 xp computers between home and work. I do have FF4 on dd's laptop - but not quite sure how it's going for her. She said she didn't like it - and I offered to try above suggestions to make it appear more like she's familiar with. She wants me to in theory - but in reality never wants to hand over the computer to have me do it. When I have more leisure to try again, am I recalling correctly that I can have 2 firefoxes installed - one version 3, and one version 4? And I can use xmarks to sync bookmarks, etc. That way I can get used to ff4 - but go back to 3 for the times I need things to go smoothly and not tinker? Any special instructions for doing 2 firefoxes? Thank you. Lynn. PS - still wonder if anyone else if having the issue where responses don't get emailed to them. This happens now for all my posts the last month - on this and the cooking forum.

Sounds to me like you need a new mouse, but go to the control panel and double click on the mouse icon. Check the settings and if they look right then click on the hardware tab and see if it says the mouse is operating properly. If so click on troubleshoot and go through the trobleshooting wizard to see if it helps. If not, a new mouse is not expensive.

Bob, thank you for the suggestion. After looking up how to right-click on this baby (!!!!), I right-clicked every space that might be considered a "top toolbar" and a few more besides. Nowhere did I see a place that would allow me to uncheck bookmarks. I can vaguely remember doing that on my XP when I got it so I'm sure you're right, but I'm missing something somewhere now. I removed Avast and reloaded it and now the message stays up longer so I an report more detail. ''Web Shield has blocked access to this page because the following certificate revoked:idvisitor.slate.com.'' In FF you want to make a new Bookmark to hold Folders. It's just the opposite of what we're used to. As you didn't mention what version of FF you're working with, I can't answer your question. I have v. 50.1.0 However...if you show a sidebar when you're in FF...at the top of the Sidebar there should be "Bookmark Tools". Right click on it and you'll see the option for "New Bookmark". Click on it and follow my directions above.

In case you're wanting to organize your "Bookmarks Toolbar" a little...

1) Right-Click within the bookmarks toolbar, either an empty area or a preexisting bookmark (the folder will be created to the left of the bookmark you click but if you don't get it exactly where you want it, you can still drag it to where you want it)

2) Either name it as you create it or right click it later to rename it

3) Drag all the bookmarks into it that you want.

4) You can always drag them around to reorder (or right click them to delete, rename, etc.)

Not sure if this video is scaled such that you can see what's going on but this is how I would create a folder, call it "mail" and drag bookmarks into it.

Yes, I probably have Firefox setup to look differently than yours but I would think it would work the same.

Sometimes it's just easier to drag the icon in the address bar down to the folder or simply select the URL, copy and then paste in the folder.
