How to Transfer Bookmarks to a new Computer

I have a desktop computer and am replacing it with a laptop that the Geek Squad is installing for me on Wednesday. Is there any way I can transfer my bookmarks to the new computer? I hate to think of trying to remember the addresses of all the sites I visit.

The new confuser will be Windows 7? Assuming so....
Click Start, Control panel,
Click the small left arrow beside 'Control panel' at the top in the address bar and select 'All control panel items'
Click Getting started
Click Transfer files ans settings from another computer then just follow along.

You will need a thumb or external drive to copy the data to and it will place all your 'stuff' from the old computer onto the new one including the wallpaper.

The easiest way is to just install xmarks.com to the browser you use, they make a version for all the top browsers. Once you install it on your original pc it will save them it also creates a Web Page just for you with all your bookmarks there as well so you can access them from any computer any where. Then when you get the new pc install xmarks on it too and hit sync bookmarks and voila they are all exactly as they were on the other one. I absolutely love xmarks.

If the files on the Maxtor were put there by a Backup utility then they can only be Restored by the same utility. As Mikie said, this is doable but involved. Import / Export is normally the easiest, 'assuming' your email client supports that, otherwise you should be able to cut and paste. With the Maxtor on the XP machine it becomes the Destination Drive for the Export or Cut files. Once that is done, hook it to the Vista machine and it becomes the Source Drive for the info. All of this assumes a comfort level using Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer). halb

Export them to a file on a thumb drive then import 'from file' on the new computer. A floppy would work if both computers have floppy drives.

I do it this way. It's the same as doing it in IE only the import export is in a different spot to find. Then I just put that file on the flash drive to reload in case I loose all my bookmarks. Oh yeah vista is almost as outdated as xp. You can still find a lot of new ones with windows 7 but the newest will have windows 8 on them. As to transfer of files I too would not let BB touch my computers. It is not difficult to transfer files, pictures, etc. You can plug in a thumb flash drive into the old pc select the files or folders you want to copy to the new one then drag to the flash drive icon or right click on the selected files and select the flash drive to copy to. Windows 7 has a built in feature for doing this easily, you will need to install it to the xp machine but it is pretty easy. I installed Xmarks per your suggestion and it was so easy, even for a non-techie like me...lol
