The hilarious tale of Dr. Huey (Long)
Comments (10)Celeste, Thanks for a VERY funny story! Actually, I like your ending. I tend to be soft-hearted and full of pity toward roses, including the unsatisfactory ones, and don't think I've ever shovel pruned a rose in my life, just moving the really awful ones to a remote corner of the property. If I were in your shoes, I would probably do my very best to design that part of the garden around 'Dr. Huey', accepting it as part of the garden family. Of course that's only possible if the gardener has a lot of space. I greatly enjoy your posts and garden photos. Melissa P.S. Would it by any chance be possible to train an intensely violet clematis, one of those that are pruned down to knee high at the end of winter, up 'Dr. Huey'? Would that distract attention somewhat from the blackspot?...See MoreAn adventure to the dump
Comments (7)Funny! You must have looked like a giant jiffy pop going down the road! One good thing about piles of rose brush.....since they all stick together because of the thorns, they do tend to be easy to drag. My clueless husband once tried to help me move some piles. In his cotton gloves. I have since bought him some LEATHER gloves so I (and the neighbor's children) don't have to hear cursing at the top of the lungs! Lynn...See MoreAdventure books
Comments (22)Cindy -- Well, I finished Purity of Blood and it's not a bad read. Some of the prose is, for lack of a better term, kind of Gothic or almost 19th century in style. However, given that the narrator is supposedly an old man reflecting on his early life in 1700s Spain, I guess it's forgivable. I still think that Perez-Reverte's other books are better. The books in his Alatriste series are nice, quick reads but they're not as complex nor as enticing as his previous works. Yes, there is mystery, sword fights, evil villains, and damsels who may or may not be in distress, but they're kind of shallow compared to his more fully developed or, better yet, better developed works. Still ..... they're nice reads for a weekend night when it's cold and blustery outside....See MoreStarting our Adventure!!!
Comments (15)Okay, so, are you having trouble identifying *why* you don't like the master bath/laundry/mud area? I really like the movement from master closet to laundry (is that a pocket door?), so if you can keep that idea, great. The vanities are a bit unorthodox (and small), so I would want to change that. The laundry should be reworked/expanded to vent the dryer directly to the outside, which will also permit you to have a window in there. The mud hall is narrow-ish, for sure, but there's only three of you... How do you want that space to work? I assume, since you already have an architect, that you have a strong reason for preferring the garage where it is? And the western patio? I have to constantly hose the patio down, to cool it off for the kids to play on it, from April to September -- you totally don't wanna see my water bill, lol. Do you have a really pretty view to the west that you don't want the garage to block? Oh, and where is the barn? Is it by the garage? Is that why the garage is there? Your barn looks cute, I don't think it would necessarily need to be hidden, if that's the case!...See MoreHolly Stockley
