Need help with my 1999 honda accord

I have a 1999 honda accord 6 cylnder VTEC. It was over heating. Has new radiator, water pump, and hoses and thermostat. Their is no signs of oil in my coolant system nor water in my oil dip stick, and no white exhaust coming out of my exhaust pipes. I purchased Steel Seal" for head gasket leaks. It does not over heat now but still has extreamley high preasure build up in the coolant system. Drove my car about 70 miles and my rad hose blew out! What test can I do to fix the high preassure build up in my coolant system.

Thanks.

How do you know it over heated? Do you have a temperature reading? your coolant system is designed to be pressurized! Look in your owner's manual. It might tell you what the pressure is supposed to be. The radiator cap controls the pressure, usually in the range of 15 to 18 psi. (On some models, the pressure control may be at a different location.) I hope you do have the correct cap/pressure control. When the pressure rises to the design level, the pressure valve is supposed to relieve the pressure and permit the excess fluid to flow into the overflow bottle. Upon shut-off and cooling, a vacuum develops and fluid is drawn from the bottle back into the coolant system. (There is a one-way valve that permits easy flow back into the radiator.) In this arrangement, air is purged from the system and as long as the system remains closed, no new air gets in, thus, oxygen is depleted and no new oxygen is allowed in. This greatly limits corrosion and crud buildup in the system.

Also, pressure raises the boiling point of the coolant allowing it to attain higher temperatures before bubbles to form. Ideally, the fluid does not boil. However, it is hazardous when hot and under pressure. It has the potential to violently burst into steam if the pressure is released.

If the pressure was correct and the hose blew, either the hose clamp or the hose was defective. Replace it.

If your system did overheat, have you checked to see if the electric radiator fan operates as it should? This fan is needed on warm to hot days, and in slow or stop and go traffic. It is also needed when the A/C is on. Often, there is enough cooling air forced through the radiator at highway speeds without the fan. Overheat can occur after a highway run and then slowing to low speed or a stop. a temperature switch is supposed to signal the engine control system to turn on the fan when it gets too hot. Are these parts working? There may be two temperature switch-like devices near each other. One is the fan control and the other is for the temperature gauge. You need a repair manual to sort this stuff out.

I am really tired today running between all the big box stores. At the end, I didn't option the lawn boy because I really can't justify the extra cost vs sears promo today. Plus, a technician at Rona's service center gave me a friendly warning about the Tecumseh engine, the supply of the parts might be good for next 2-3 years but can't promise anything at long run. I still have a thought that a good mower should last me 10 years ironed in my head... However, I really like the design of the lawn boy 10684, everything seems very well design and build quality is better than others. If it's around $350CND range and none self-propelled model, I would pull the trigger, no question ask. I went back to Sears and ordered the Craftsman 36933 model (3-in-1 with bag, side discharge, mulching), which has B&S 850 platinum engine (8.5 ft/lb torque), no choke and no primer needed. The price is just what I am aiming for, 289.99+taxes. The engine seems pretty well build but the rest of the parts are very standard, a regular every week lawn mower...

The "engine light" primary purpose is to monitor the emissions control system. Anything that affects emission will trigger this, and the event will be remembered, at least for the newer OBD II system.. So, the thing to do here is to bring all the cars service requirements up to date. This problem could be something as simple as battery terminal corrosion up to some sensor or a relay. Then, have the "codes read".. An interpretation of the codes may help...

low freon will prevent the compressor from cycling on for most cars. on most cars you can disconnect battery for several minutes and than restart car and the a/c should cycle on for 10 seconds or so. if your car does this than it probably is low on freon. you can put a gauge set on the car and check systems pressures. static should be 75psi or so. if nothing works than it could be on the control side of system. most shops start by checking system pressures.

Coolant for Honda Accord 96

You can use over the counter coolant, but the water pump seals may fail early. I recall something about Honda recommending a non-silicate antifreeze. I know that for their motorcycles (the water cooled ones), a silicate bearing antifreeze will cause failure of the water pump seals. I don't know if the same is true for Honda's auto engines, but I suspect that it is. Much of third party antifreeze has silicates. Read the label carefully. If it does not mention silicate-free, assume there is silicate in the jug. The label on your car refers to a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water, and it says do not dilute that mixture. A 50/50 mix produces the lowest freezing point, so you don't want to change that. The label apparently is refering to coolant that is already mixed 50/50. Use google to search the internet to see if you can find more information about Honda's antifreeze. Some time ago, the magazine, "Motor Cycle Consumer News" published complaints of owners of Honda Gold Wings reporting failures of water pumps. These failures consistently happened after the owners changed their coolants. An investigation by techs for the magazine pointed to silicates in the antifreeze. Although this is not a definitive study, my personal experience has been that my automotive water pump seals do last longer when I use only non-silicate antifreeze.
