Creatively displaying plants...how do YOU do it?
Comments (11)I can't really display my plants because of light reasons. I just have to smoosh them up against the window and hope for the best. Honestly I don't even see a good number of them for most of the week because they're behind closed blinds. Actually I think my worst-displayed plant is the Pedilanthus. It was braided around some plastic stake that I can't get out of it, ever, and is also topheavy and growing at a weird angle because of said stake. So I have it flopped over on its side behind my NIP. The parts that get light are growing normally and look fine although the pink variegation isn't showing up. I should get a picture of it actually. Maybe get some advice on what to do with it short of a complete disassemble-and-reroot....See MoreHow do you display your mounted orchids?
Comments (3)Some can be wedged in pots, others have to hang. I have a PVC stand which I can adjust to various heights to suit the plant in question. I also have a clothing rack which can be disassembled and adjusted to various dimensions. Got it at 'Bed and Linens" ??? can't remember the name, it's a commom chain. For smaller plants fill the bottom 1/3 of an attractive wine bottle with sand, a stick plus hook and the thing can look good. I have a gigantic Dendrobium speciosum which has a dedicated stand which stands at the end of a table. Nick...See Morehow do you all water your succulents?
Comments (13)We have a sprinkling system that waters the ones we have in the front yard, and they get watered twice a week. I use a hose for the ones in the back yard and water them once a week or so. The ones in the back yard are mostly in pots, and when they get too big, they get planted in the ground in the front yard. The small ones get started in rectangular wooden planters (see photo from October of last year, below) and then get transferred into bigger pots as needed. I also have quite a few in hanging pots in my apple tree, and some others in quite large pots that are not really appropriate for the front yard. If we happen to get rain in the winter, I can have a problem with oxalis getting into the pots, but when there is minimal water, this is not a problem. I do not give mine a whole lot of water, and I used to have lithos plants that will die if they get too wet. Mine were in the wooden planters and got destroyed in a rare hail storm, even though the hail was tiny....See MoreHow do you get your city to display?
Comments (11)paul: specifically, they mean the "zone box" that you fill in each and every time you "post a follow-up" or "post a thread" - this has nothing to do with your profile info it feeds your user name only & you fill in your zone - most people add add'l info (city, county, region like pineywoods) b/c the zones stretch across the continent - i use d/fw b/c my town is small, but there are four counties' worth of people in my general area ~ freshair...See Morenotolover
