I do have cane borers and every year I put something on the end of the cuts when I trim. Last year I used some old latex paint to seal the ends. This is what I found this year. There was NO HOLE in the end of the cane and it did die back about a 1" with new growth, but it looked funny to me so I cut into the die back and this what I found. Did the cane borers get past the latex or is it something else? The rose is old and it did not do well last year, not like in the past. Any one have a clue? This rose is a huge climber and I don't want to loose it. You can see the black on the side from the die back. I did cut the cane down to good white pith. Thanks!
