There are no restrictions on hunting WW doves, they are an invasive species. You can shoot/trap/hunt them anytime of year in any number. Maybe a nice stewed dove dinner is in the works? The Inca or little Mexican doves should be starting to migrate about now. I have all 3 year round here. They seem to take turns at the feeder, first the WW, then the mourning, sometimes the Inca are mixed in with the first 2 & sometimes they flock in all at once. The feeders will be deserted then every bird in Galveston shows up, then they all leave. How the heck do you NOT feed them & feed the others? Tally HO!

thank you! Iôve attached a pic of the popsicle bird feeder. One of those Pinterest things. Thank you for the advice, I was thinking to change the feeder, but thought first to try and get a different seed mix. What I got supposedly does not attract doves, but they there were....bullying the poor cardinals that wanted to come. I read that somebody posted once that the doves are scared easily. Not where I live. I actually have to go out and make a scandal before they just jump on the fence and watch me from there. Iôll try changing feeders...no fun watching doves eat my seeds.

A point about drinking. I haven't watched doves close up like I can the hummingbirds drinking from the hummzinger feeder outside my kitchen window. They do not use suction but lap up the nectar. was 4 degrees about sunup this thanksgiving morning. a mixed flock of chickadees and nuthatches and titmouse"s all over the suet block and the woodpecker block. A flicker perched in the tree watching them. Scrub jays and pinyon jays and magpies all over the stumps covered with mixed seed and crumbled cornbread. And a flock of eaurasian doves cleaning up under the feeders and a bunch of juncos running around on the ground. one scruffy little ground squirrel after the cracked corn.
