James Hardie Smooth vs. Select Cedarmill

Equanimity

We're building a new construction traditional colonial home in a mature neighborhood in northern New Jersey. We're considering James Hardie "HardiePlank" lap siding in the "Arctic White" color (which has a slight grey hue when viewed in certain light conditions). We like the 5" exposure.

We're trying to decide between the "Smooth" and the Select Cedarmill: https://www.jameshardie.com/Products/HardiePlank-Lap-Siding

Our builder suggested that we "should not use the Smooth in the white color because it looks like cardboard, but it's all right to use the Smooth in darker colors."

I've seen this thread on GW: http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/3533103/smooth-vs-wood-grain-hardie

Folks seem to prefer the Smooth, though I'm not certain whether the preference is in colors other than Arctic White.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what the Arctic White would look like in Smooth vs. Select Cedarmill?

Thanks!
