Sides of cake in springform pan burned while top is still not brown?

Pretty much says it all. I was waiting til the top of this
German Apple cake ( German apple cake from David Lebovitz ) was
golden brown, as the recipe called for, and meanwhile the sides burned. It
ended up being in the oven an additional 15 minutes. It’s not a cake that rises
a lot: very little. So the top surface was recessed at least an inch from the
top of the pan edge. I couldn’t really tell the sides were burnt until I took
the pan off today. I trimmed them off, but still….

The springform pan sides are that grey-coated non-stick
stuff, which I don’t like in general for any baking, but it was what I have. I
have 3 different sizes of springforms, and only one is uncoated (and the bottom’s
been lost for that one).

I don’t use these enough anymore to get something new. Once in
a while…I use them just enough to not donate them.

I wonder how I can compensate:

Turn down the oven 25
degrees?

Move the pan higher up in the oven to get reflected heat
toward the end of baking? I had put this one right in the middle.

Shield the sides? I vaguely remember reading about something
like that in the past.

Thanks for your suggestions!
