Comments (5)Joe !!!!! ... you have a new babe.. what in the heck are you worrying about the trees for?????? up here in my neck of MI .... 6 weeks without a trace of water... and 2 of the weeks near 100 .... leaves are dropping off the following: red bud, birch, chestnut, oak, poplar, lilac, mock orange .. etc ... very simply .... WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT???? .. and forget about the neighbors... their grass is always greener .... now get your priorities straight... go snuggle the poop machine and forget about your trees ... they have survived in nature.. in drought.. for millions of years.. they can handle it.. and if they cant .. you have better things to do .... now go bath stinkee... have a great day .. and congrats on the important thing... ken...See MoreOak tree ID: Is this a swamp white oak?
Comments (10)if i had to do it .... i would get a pot.. and some cactus mix.. and transplant it ASAP ... and get it accustomed to the pot.. before the long drive home. and then i would put the pot in full shade and not plant it in mother earth.. until the leaves fall off ... trees do not like regular high peat media... it can hold too much water .. they like a drink and near total drainage ... even to be dry for a day or two .. before wetting again .... but in a small pot.. dont let the pot get too hot.. nor too dry.. while holding the plant over ... even if you have to stick the pot in the soil.. to temper august heat ... but dont shock it twice.. by digging it up.. then transporting it .. and then immediately replanting it... wait.. thats three shocks... and on the drive home.. no stopping for 12 afternoon drinks.. and leaving your pet tree in a closed car on the parking lot... crikey.. traveling with plants is worse than kids.. you just cant leave them in a closed locked car ... lol ... make sense...?? someone else can ID it for you .. but why not practice regardless... good luck.. let us know how it works out ... ken ps: i was told .. long ago.. its hard to ID oak babes.. as mature leaf form is better for ID ....but it sure does look like a swamper to my untrained eye .......See MoreSwamp White Oak
Comments (12)Poaky - not entirely sure what your first post means. I think the soil and roots are doing just fine for this tree. I think we all agree to set the tree free and that's what I will do. Here's an example of one of the trees I planted this spring that has no support lines. This tree was labeled as a 'project' by the nursery because someone chopped the top off at some point. Because of the fantastic price, we added it last minute to a purchase of 2 other N Red Oaks. This one is called the orphan because of the 'project' label and how we added him on a whim to our purchase - we felt sorry for him. :) This tree may be doing the best of any of the three I bought that day this past spring. You can see the SWO that started this thread towards the left edge of this pic in the distance. Comments (8)be nice to know where you are.. and what the weather has been since planting .. also your soil type might help ... water sure wouldnt hurt .. but it has to get deep into the root ball planted ... if you dont know the size.. we need to see the whole tree to guess for you ... call the city and ask their advice one thing for sure.. they arent hungry ... no fert .. i dont rule out disease.. but i highly doubt that is the base issue.. they have not been properly watered since planting ... ken...See Morefarmboy1
