What appliance(s) far exceeded your expectations?
Comments (49)Panasonic microwave oven model NE-7850 (700 watts) purchased in 1983 and still running. Replaced light bulb, fuse, turntable belt (turntable belt was the most recent replacement, July 2009.) I love the layout of the touch pads, it just has four buttons for time entry. 10 minute, 1 minute, 10 second, 1 second. So if you wanted 5 minutes and 30 seconds, you would hit the 1 minute button 5 times and the 10 second button 3 times then start. Six power levels. Auto Cook, Auto Defrost by weight. Push button pull handle. Built solid and very heavy. Quiet. Realizing this thing wont last forever I replaced it with a Panasoinc NN-H965B but hanging on to the old one. The new Panasonic can't compare to overall quality of the 26 year old model. Already I don't like the push to open button under the touch pads. Door gets all finger prints from just closing the door and it's black, not stainless. Very noisy fan, way noisier than the old one. Very hollow sounding when closing the door and light in weight. Closing the door pushes the whole oven back if it's not against the wall. It has a good button layout and is not confusing but display is not as clear and looks washed out (especially when not viewing the display at eye level, this is a countertop model so you do look down at it). I know I'll never get 20 years out of it but I'll have the old one to fall back on....See MoreSurface or bolt-mounted appliance pulls for paneled appliances?
Comments (2)From behind. That way the screw has metal to metal contact because it passes through the wood into the back of the handle or knob and threads into it. Also the screw head is opposed by the back of the panel it is passing through. Something screwed into a 3/4 wood panel will loosen and pull out over time. It took a good tug to open my Subzero door and drawers and same with the DW. If they had been front mounted pulls they would have eventually pulled out of the wood....See MorePlease comment on appliance ideas (XP on Appliance Forum)
Comments (12)Angela12345, we would consider black & so thoughtful of you to include the link - quite a variety of RangeCraft styles! - am just having difficulty envisioning anything of the bulk apparently required. Thinking I should get busy building a cardboard mock-up, although we haven't done any demo yet so spatial volume & ceiling height of kitchen-to-be are only in our minds right now. Plenty of blue tape marking things out on the floor, though... SparklingWater, it's so helpful to get your KA experience. Our current fridge is a bottom-freezer Whirlpool that we bought in 1992, & in 20 years it has never needed a single repair. I cringe reading appliance reviews and realizing that the chances of finding that quality again are slim-to-none! Come to think of it, was just reading the resurrected toaster thread, and our Salton long-slot toaster is from 1991 (still chugging along), and our Panasonic microwave is from 1990 and has only needed 1 repair. The Whirlpool will replace the REALLY ancient fridge that previous homeowners left in our basement (changing of the back-up fridge guard); even at 20 yrs. old we expect it will result in energy savings compared to the one down there now. Guess we haven't been doing our part to keep appliance manufacturers in business up to now!...See MoreAnyone used an appliance outlet store for their kitchen appliances?
Comments (15)I have had good & bad expriences buying from an outlet store or scratch & dent sale. I had a good experience buying a srctah -n -dent off a box floor sale. Stove still working 5 years, using daily. I had a horrible experience buying from an outlet store. The dish washer I bought still in box, but found out it was defective on 1st use. It kept locking half cycle, etc. I tried to return it 3 days later, but found out I had to do a bunch of hoops to try to return. What a nightmare. The outlet stor sent a technician out. Technician says it is defective motherboard & it would cost more to fix than exchange for new one. So, I called to return. Then told I would have to fix it, sold as is, nothing wrong, ignores, etc. I posted a bad review of experience, then finally higher management apologized & aaccepted return. So, after that I am weary to buy from an outlet. Like someone mentioned, a lot of outlets are returns from another customer. There's a reason. It may be wrong color, but if you see more of those models there, that's a huge red flag it's that model which must have smething more wrong with it. It could also be overstock, if lucky that is what it is. It's kind of a gamble. so due your deligence & research on each purchase to lower your risk: research each model # with manufacturer (like M suggested) read the return policy & contract fully buy where return policy give some time to use appliance & return if it does not work properly buy with credit card that extends warranty. Read all terms & conditions of buying "as is" products in all your warranties. Learn how the warranty works. Some warranties extend other warranty some offer to fix if shipped but you got to pay all shipping, some offer store credit or full refund. Some are a waste of money some are worth the money....See MoreMDLN
